They're my mom's favorite insect. I have no idea why, she just thinks they are the best animal in the whole world. So I thought I'd join this group and dedicate that picture to her. Of course, she doesn't know about it....

When I Was A Kid Grasshoppers + Locust

My discovery of this real world and how a bit of fantasy makes intuitiveness fill in with its mystics and wonders.  Just as all kids and it was with me at the age of 6 in Tucson, Arizona 1961 that of going to the outside of the house, I would see Grasshoppers and...

Standing Date With Praying Mantis Friend

For two years, I lived in the beautiful town of Mariposa, California. While staying with a magnanimous friend for a few months, I took on watering her garden every morning. I really enjoy this chore and singing to the plants and the birds and trees. A few days into my stay...

    Pest Control

Evidently one of our neighbors purchased a bunch of mantis eggs to use for his garden.  Now we have tons of them around our yard.  It's awesome to watch them stalk the other bugs.  And if you pick one up and talk to it, it'll look at you like it really understands...

I Was Munched On By A Praying Mantis & I Still Love Them!

When I was young, my Dad was photographing an adult female who was particularly defensive and on my hand. Dad was trying to get a side view of her in the attack mode, but she was turning around with him as he moved to get the side view photo of her. I lifted up my little finger...

I was introduced to praying mantises by chance

on YouTube and that video blew my mind. I thought at that time they were the most interesting insect on the planet: alien features, seemingly smart and so very mean. I started to read all I could on the subject in my spare time on the internet, at the local library and I even...

Well maybe not TECHNICALLY bugs, but they are super cool. It's also proper to spell it preying or praying.

    Instead Of Working -

This Isn't a Group I Expected to Find!

When I was a child there was a mantis that lived on our back porch. Was a first pet of sorts. It was named Herman (though I don't know that it was even a male) and ended up getting HUGE. As an adult, I still think they're pretty awesome. No matter what they do it always looks...
