I Love Sailing

I'm not really an avid sailor given

that I have no boat and really don't get out that often, but my dream would be to have my own boat one day. Maybe that will be a retirement gift to myself or sooner if the winds blow in my favour. I remember as a child sailing with friends of my parents and thinking how free it...

I want to buy a catamaran,

under 40 feet so I can handle it alone... live aboard and sail from port to port, working when I need money & sailing for the rest of my life. I had considered a monohull, but, they are not as stable, they don't sail as fast & the quarters are cramped

How Mom Beat Dad At His Own Game.

I guess about 20 or so years ago my Dad bought a sail boat (a San Juan 30). Before he had gotten the boat he had been crewing a friend's boat in "Beer league" races around San Fransisco Bay. Dad had encouraged Mom to take Sailing Lessons so she could enjoy the boat as well. She...

Being on a boat out at sea helped me in my

    Inland Sailing Blue Water Dreams

In 1972 I purchased a Korellie 12' sailing dingy. I was a fool to part with it. I currently sail a highly modified MacGregor 25 that I purchased in 2000. I have done all the work myself as every project is an opportunity to learn. Some times I've made mistakes. I seem to learn...

    Sailing Is Bliss

I spent the weekends in my youth building a 28 foot long wooden sail boat with my father. Those were the days!!! We bonded during the creation of the boat. On the day we finished the boat we took her to the river to make sure she was going to float. WOW, it did!!!! Then the whole...

    Ready To Sail South!

Stocked up on food provisions found only (or cheaply) in the USVI yesterday. Today we sailed off the mooring and to Crown Bay Marina to fill up on fuel. We motored in and docked without a hitch…. Unfortunately, the gear shift ceased to work as we were exiting the marina under...

Back On A Boat, And It Feels Great

I've spent much of my life on sailboats.  My dad was a sailor and taught me to sail at a very young age.  I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, where sailing was always part of summer.  I don't think I need to explain the way sailing becomes a way of life, and such a part...

    We Sail Every Summer Holiday

Ever since I was a little girl, most of my summer holidays have been spent sailing. There were a few years when it was not possible due to the health of a family member or due to finances, but sailing is more than just a hobby for me. Sailing is a way of life that few seem to...

    Sailing is so much more

I started learning to sail this summer through

a program for disabled vets in the Finger Lakes region. We went out in a 23' swing keel that is moored on the lake rather than the dry sailed J 24 we normally use. I definitely prefer the swing keel as it's rigged for cruising and not racing so it was a more comfortable boat. I...
