Middle Aged Man And The Lake

I am blessed to be the proud owner of a very old, yet well maintained sailboat. It is an escape, a floating man cave, a family adventure, a romantic getaway, a character builder, and a labor of love...all rolled into one. To be under sail with no particular place to go and a...

I Fell In Love With The Water

I was lucky enough to have a father who took us sailing on Lake Superior starting when I was nine. I will never forget the powerful, moving experience of crossing Lake Superior for the first time, going from the South Shore (Apostle Islands) to the North Shore (Grand Marais). It...

love the way the waves makes us move up and down. Even more so on a really windy day. The sun and smell of the ocean is something to really fall in love with.

    A Squall

The air turns suddenly chilly. The water is darker and less peaceful. The sky darkens. My hair whips around my face and neck. Sea spray batters my skin. I quickly adjust.  Jib is furled, Mainsail is reefed.  My pulse quickens as the bow disappears under a jagged crashing wave...

    Sailing is so much more

than sailing to me. It's an escape from everything in the world. It's a place where I can be in the middle of nowhere and think about nothing or everything. The wind. The water. The peace. There's nothing else like it.

Back On A Boat, And It Feels Great

I've spent much of my life on sailboats.  My dad was a sailor and taught me to sail at a very young age.  I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, where sailing was always part of summer.  I don't think I need to explain the way sailing becomes a way of life, and such a part...

Sailing - every time I go out on the ocean, it's like the first time. There is something mystical and magical about being one with the ocean. It is the only place I have ever found true peace. The wind rushing through my hair, the salt spray on my face, the sun peeking over the...

The best moment is when it begins.

You turn the motor off and the boat becomes alive. Or you leave the beach and the sails fill and at that moment you're a part of the something primal. The universe of physics takes you. In this moment the stress of the corporeal world is gone. Only the moment you're in exists...
