I really really love steam trains,

they're so much better than the modern diesel trains. Yesterday, me and my partner went to the Severn Valley Railway in the UK and went on a steam train and I loved it. I love the sound as it's about to move from the platform. They have such character and I find that the seats...

    There Is Nothing Like Steam

My love for steam trains stems from my father. He was a train lover and with the demise of steam, he took us to museums and took us on steam hauled trips. We lived across the road from a main line that was the line to last run steam hauled passenger and goods services.Steam...

    Nyc Hudson 4-6-4

Since I ran into Railroad Tycoon 2 when I was lot younger and saw my first Hudson I was in love. The three large drivers with 2 axle truck fore and aft gives it a powerfull ballanced look. Its history as being a performer is also attractive,a workhorse just like a locomotive...

Once Upon A Time Back In The Stone Age

And now for a story from the other side of the pond. I'm 70 years old so I experienced the end of the steam era in the States (not talking about the preserved stuff). In the early 1950s, in a world much safer for children to explore without parental accompaniment my buddy and I...

    UP 3985 Challenger

In 1976 I believe it was, UP sent their 3985 Challenger steam locomotive to the opening of the California State Rail Museum. At this time the locomotive ran on coal. I was hired with our 82 ton Link Belt crane to "Clam shell" coal from a UP hopper car filled with coal. I guess...

    Southern Pacific 4004

As a kid I road many passenger trains pulled by steam. At the time who would of guessed that era would vanish except for the excursion trains. My Mom and I rode the Super Chief from Los Angles to Chicago many times. Their address was 4004 Hermitage Ave. One day sitting at a...

    I'm A Diesel-hydraulic Man Really, But.....

I was raised in Bournemouth and was there in the shed on the last day of steam in '67. I had a friend who's dad was the shed foreman, he gave us the run of the place on the last day. we sat on an Ivatt tankie all afternoon, shovelling coal in occasionally and having a great time...

    Iam Just Old Enough

To remember the end of steam hauled travel along the south coast between Brighton and Portsmouth. 1965? I would have been a toddler, but I do remember a cavalcade of steam locos commemorating the end of steam on this line. My garden backed on to the railway - I lived in...

I always wanted to live in the time of steam.

To be at the head of five miles of freight in the cab of the Big Boy. Yes, biggest successful locomotive created in history. Yes... I am a girl, but to be in that powerful loco is just...a dream. http://www.steamlocomotive.com/bigboy/4019b.jpg

    Shay Logging Locomotives

A Shay Locomotive is an odd looking duck, its boiler sets off to the left causing it to look off balanced. Her three cylinder engine is vertical and sets centered on the right side unlike the normal horizonal pistons balanced on each side. The steam engine pistons are like an...

I Saw a Brand New Steam Train On My Way Home Today

I have just got home from a fantastic stunts week and am worn out but happy, but randomly, I saw a steam train in the railway station by utter chance! What happened was that I went to a stage combat week in Wales next to the Bristol Channel, arriving at Bridgend...

    My Dream

Ever since I was little, I've had a love of steam locomotives. Many times I would see one that we had in town running, SLSF 1522, out on the main during her excursion career which sadly ended in 2002. There's just something about the power, beauty, and majesty of a steam...
