I Love the Smell of Old Books

    My friends give me crap

for continuing to buy hard copies of books. I have a kindle but I just feel so much happier with a book in my hands. It seems like the experience of reading is made richer feeling the paper on your fingers. The smell of all the people that have read a book before you or the...

I'm a book person, what can I say?

Books just give me that level of comfort. To sit in the secluded corner of a library and venture in my own world..books provide me that tasteful feeling.

One of my greatest memories was going to

University library where my uncle worked. He was pretty senior there and had access to every part of the library. He brought me down into the archive and restoration area where I was able to hold and see so many old documents and books from our first presidents and other...

There were certain sections of the library at

college that I liked to go to for just this reason. It is hard to find somewhere you can go to get this smell anymore.

    (Excuse my really lame edit,

I just wanted to include more than one thing from the book) I bought this beauty today from a second hand book sale at a festival I was visiting. Sadly I cannot find a date anywhere on it, but I think it's from the 40s-50s. Loads of the information is extremely out dated but...

    The age, the texture.

The stories of the people who have held the book in their hands in the past. The words inside can be magnificent, but the story of the life of the book itself can be just as interesting.

if you ask me, that musty,

antique book smell draws you closer into the story, and reminds you juzt how old that story is. I'm currently working on reading: The danger mark, by Robert W. Chambers, published September 1909. I'm about 40 pages in, and lemme tell ya... it's not at all what I was expecting...

Through all what we go in our lives,

Sometimes the smell of the old books causes my

imagination to go wild. It feels like my soul has lived a thousand lifetimes and like the books are the stories of my past lives. It feels like I get lost and I am entirely consumed in the smell and I dissappear to a place of fantasy and history.

My father buys me either really old books

or brand new ones because he knows how much love the smell. Old books are the best to smell but the new ones have that crinkle sound when you first open them and I love that too. I just love books!

The musty scent brings forth an onslaught of memories of all the books I have read before, as well as a hunger for a new page-turner. Few things are as beautiful as an old book. A portal to a different dimension, yet small enough to hold and turn over your hands. Held and...

I have a book that has smelled of vanilla

for about five years. It's an old copy of The Iliad that I took with me to Mexico. My mom had me pick up a big bottle of Mexican vanilla which broke in my suitcase and soaked everything. The smell is nice, but I'm looking forward to it just smelling like old book again.
