    When I Was 10

When I was a little girl my mom frequently stopped at a Spanish bakery for some churros ( some sort of fritters, like doughnuts, but not quite as big) and the smell was so delicious. Even to this day , every time I have the opportunity to have churros and chocolate , I have a...

    Not All Odors Were Nice.

I still remember very well, the horrific terrible odor of the home permanents my mom gave me as a young boy. Although I have smelled much worse since that time, I still have the nightmares of the odor wafting into my nose causing congestion or just making my nose run. Not...

One Sniff and I Am There

Play Dough, Side Walk Chalk, Jergen's Cherry Almond Lotion,  and Joy Lemon Dish Detergent are some of the things that really take me back to my childhood.  One sniff and I am there.

    Mmm

I love the smell of shoe polish (the kind in a can).   My grandfather would polish his shoes on Saturday night to prepare for church. I miss papa.

    Summer and Winter Smells

Fresh-cut grass and the smell of roses, Evergreens and wood-smoke, the smell of baking cookies as you walk into the house. All these smells take me back, to different times, different places.

The Smell Are the Only Thing I Want to Remember.

Something about the crispness, of a december or january day in Pasadena, Ca (LA Suburb) If you live here you know that you do not get many crisp, clean days here. When you do it is something to enjoy. No smog, not 100 degrees, just clear. The smell is so strong not because it is...

    Memories.

Occasionally certain scents catch me off guard and I am taken back to my childhood, simpler times.  When I was very small my grandma would give me a bath and put jergens cherry almond scented lotion on me.  Well, I hadn't smelled that lotion in probably thirteen...

    Certain Smells

Certain smells always remind me of childhood. Usually they involve things that are seasonal, like fresh cut grass in the summer, burning leaves in the fall, impending snow in the winter, and cold sunshine in the spring. Other times though I'll get a whiff that reminds me of the...

    ????

Now this may seem odd but I love the smell of creosote and the smell of diesel (especially from speedway bikes) as they remind me of being young.  Also, Dad (who I am closer to than anyone in my life except my husband) was a mechanic so I love the smell of oil on skin...

    Remember The Mimeograph Machines?

I worked as an aide in the office at school and would turn my hands blue from the ink it used. I still remember the smell of it and think of middle school.

    Especially The Scents

that make me think of my grandma and aunt. And of me going to school and on the playground. It makes me feel..a weird sense of security..even if it's only for a second.

    Ah Memories...

Just last week I was going through some old gamepro magazines, and I got a wiff of them and it reminded me of my friends I use to have growing up. It reminded me that they were real. Because the gamepros came from them, I can't believe they still smell that way after so long. I...

    My Favorites

The smell of the salt on the air, from my grandparents' house on the Bay. How the museum my father worked in when I was little smelled, and how it still smells that way even to this day. The smell of leather and gas and automotive liquids that permeated the old Volkswagen...

    To Name Just a Few:

There are a few smells that are so entrenched in my memory and rich with emotion and experience from my childhood.  Some of them are not necessarily "pretty" smells, but I love them for the vivid memories they spark. Our family camping gear, particularly the smell...
