    The Birds Are.............

The birds are such wonderous creatures. I love to feed them and watch them interact with each other and watch them eat. It's also so neat to watch birds of prey, like a hawk, when they go in for the hunt, swoop down and catch their prey in their talons and take back off to eat...

    Good Clean Fun

.I mix crack corn and black sunflower seeds and put the feeder in the front yard so I can see all the birds from the window. I also use suet for the blue jays and wood peckers. I remember a few years ago we had an oriole that came every morning and looked at himself in our window...

Who has who trained? That's the question I ask myself when the local Mountain Bluebird knocks on my back window to alert me it is time to go outside, sit down and commence feeding him peanuts. These guys are pretty Territorial. There are five that have my backyard...

    Pidgeon Fingers

Years ago, I watched a friend's little girl while our older kids were at school. During warmer fall days, we would go to the duck pond at the park down the street from my daughters' school. We brought bread or crackers for the ducks. Seems like we always ran out of bird snacks...

    The Hummingbirds Are Coming Back!

I saw a post on FB about feeding hummingbirds and somebody said in the comments that the hummingbirds showed up in Georgia on Easter. That made me happy because I am just a couple of states up, which means hummingbirds may be here already, looking for a bottle of nectar to...

    Peaceful Fun!

It's been a while, since I've done this. But yes, there is a nice parkway, not too far from where I live. There is a path were the joggers and the bicyclists roam. And on the opposite side, there is a stretch of park, with lots of trees and benches and glass... at the end of...

    A Welcome Guest

I have several bird feeders in the back yard. The sparrows are the only diners of late, as the finches have sought a warmer climate. Today I saw a bigger, green bird on the feeder and went out to have a better look. It was a parakeet, so beautiful, and such a surprise. Parakeets...

    Ducks and Geese

I remember years ago we would go downtown to Princess Island Park or Bowness Park and bring a couple of loaves of bread and feed the ducks and geese.  My kids loved doing this, I have so many pictures of my kids as toddlers and all these feathered ducks and geese...

    Started It For Husband

My husband has MS, and thought a few bird feeders outside the window, near his chair, would be something he would enjoy. He has, but I have also become addicted to watching the birds. THere is something peaceful about it, like watching fish in a tank. How many feeders and...

    On My Patio

I've got two suet cages and a finch sock feeder on my patio. The smaller birds made a mess out of the finch sock, the seeds are everywhere. But I get all types of birds. A little bit ago, I saw a huge blue jay. I tried to get close enough to my sliding glass door to take a...

    I Feed And Watch Birds

At the park I sit down on a bench and toss out pieces of crackers to birds.. sometimes theres ducks, sometimes pigeons or seagulls come up right close. One bird once pulled at my brown shoelace maybe thought it was a worm. Sometimes I get pictures of them.

    Inspiration Atop The Dumpster

Just a few years ago I noticed some seagulls picking through the overloaded dumpster on the other side of the fence. Crows were also looking for snacks, but the seagulls would not share. Instantly inspired, I grabbed a scrap of paper and came up with a poem about arrogance...
