    We're All Mad Here

I've always been drawn to quirkiness and oddities, and since I was first introduced to the poignant work of Waits a few years back, there are few other musicians that has inspired me more than him. He is simply a incredible lyricist, a quite bizarre one that is. Cliché alert; he...

    The Past Few Nights...

For the past couple of nights... maybe weeks, I have been listening to tom waits all night while i sit here. Sometimes his voice is so sad but at the same time I can laugh and enjoy some of the craziness. None of my friends really get what i see in him. There is just...

    I Encounter Small Change

I was in graduate school in the 1970s, and working very hard at what I was paid to do: learn. Yes, we had scholarship allowances then and to augment that I had a job as a tutor as well. You weren't rich, but boy, what a life. I played cricket in the summer which always led to a...

    Genius.....

What does a pack of filterless cigarettes and a bottle of scotch sound like in a voice growling words that can drop you to your knees? That would be Tom Waits. His gruff whispers have carried me through many a tough time, and his absurdity has brought laughter when I didn't...

    Sir Tom Waits........

BEST story teller......EVER! He is a modern day, musical shakespear. Better. I love him. I love his voice. I love his style. I love every song he sings. He's brilliant. He is magical with words. He is my favorite artist. By far.

    Tom Rules

In my opinion, Blood Money is Tom Waits' best album. Gods Away on Business is one of the best song ever written. I just love the nihilistic outlook of that song. The same thing is true about Misery is the River of the World. It's brimming over with pessimism and weltschmerz. I...

    Blue Valentine

I am revisiting Blue Valentine. Rediscovering how good it is. Romeo is Bleeding, there's a bullet in his chest. And Postcard from a Hooker in Minneapolis - whoa. Great jazz grooves, blues, and of course Blue Valentine. I love this album. Thanks, Tom.

    "God's Away On Business"!

Hear him growl his way through this over the end credits of "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" and you'll be a fan, even if you never heard of the guy before. For the rest of us,it's one more gem in a well-supplied jewel box.

    Waits Down Under

I was intrigued recently to read an article in online media about the ageing Tom Waits, and how he does not tour anymore, doesn't like it. That wasn't always the case. When much younger - mind you, we were all much younger back then - he was quite the vigorous tourist. He brought...

My oldest brother introduced me to Tom. He picked up swordfishtrombone in 1995 or 1996. It took me a while to warm up to Tom...I was only 14 or so, and kind of stuck on my maudlin bits...my particular sorrows hadn't warmed up to Tom...till I was about 16, and I started drinking...
