    His Ambition In His Words

“What am I in the eyes of most people — a nonentity, an eccentric, oran unpleasant person — somebody who has no position in society andwill never have; in short, the lowest of the low. All right, then —even if that were absolutely true, then I should one day like to...

    Just Let Me Be Myself

“Occasionally, in times of worry, I’ve longed to be stylish, but on second thought I say no—just let me be myself—and express rough, yet true things with rough workmanship.”—Vincent van Gogh

    I Think He's Unique

The colors, the forms, the imagination is like nothing else I've seen.

This World Was Never Meant For One As Beautiful As You.

Van Gogh's paintings are thrilling.  I sense he saw movement in everything: the earth, the trees, a still landscape.  Every brush stroke in his paintings suggests an aliveness and energy that, if truly visible and real, would make this world unbearably, intensely...

His paintings are truly something. I know during school we had to examine sort copies of his paintings and use them as inspiration for a painting or drawing we were going to do. My art teacher was nuts about them.

    Beauty And Suffering

Vincent has a way of expressing loneliness and despair that moves me deeply. His crows above a thickly painted field of wheat, the bare branches of a tree in an empty field, his placement of a single white iris in a field of purple blooms speak so eloquently of heart break...

I love Van Gogh so much.

He was a horribly lonely man. When he attempted suicide, the police asked him if he tried to kill himself, and you know what he said? "I think so, do not accuse anyone else." How sad is that?

    Brilliant Colour

Van Gogh led a troubled life but his paintings have so much vivid colour, so much furious energy. I find him a fascinating person and have read a book (Love of Many Things) which made me appreciate how interesting his life really was.

    The Great Martyr Of Art...

When I think about Van Gogh I cannot help thinking about him as a martyr of the art. Sometimes I get that feeling about some people are born with the right to be happy, successful, famous. OK, Van Gogh got fame but not in life. In life he was as miserable, poor and misunderstood...

His paintings are magical. They draw you in and the colors are fantastic. Somehow they touch me, and not in a perverted way either lol.

    His Letters

Today I found a site which features Vincent's letters to Theo. I just wanted to share them with fellow Van Gogh fans. His writing is so interesting. I hope you enjoy it: http://vangoghletters.org/vg/letters/let252/letter.html

I read a biography about him

and I completly fell in love with this person. He was a beautiful human being, so full of hurt and lonesomeness and still always so giving and caring. I mean he'd give all his money away and starve rather then see his fellow humans be hungry. He was never appreciated for his...

Even My 3 Year Old Daughter Loves Him

    His Poetic Descriptions

    A Brilliant Tormented Soul

I had the good fortune of taking in a traveling exhibition of Impressionist paintings. It included one of Van Gogh's sunflowers and a few other of his works. Let me tell you that looking at a reproduction of a Van Gogh is a poor substitute for seeing the real thing. I don't know...

    How I Feel About Vincent

"to me Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly the most popular, great painter of all time. The most beloved, his command of colour most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion...

We all love Vincent Van Gogh. He is a genius in the eyes of almost everyone. His paintings are on cans and boxes in books and calendars, in the newspapers every time a record is broken. We love him, we adore him, we worship him, we would love to have one of his in our living...

    Painting Emotion

Van Gogh had the ability to paint movement, to paint emotion in a way that no other artist before or since has been able to accomplish. He was amazing. A little crazy. But amazing.
