I Love Walking Through Graveyards and Reading the Headstones

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 1,357 People

    Something so eerie and peaceful.

Walking amongst all those people, all those lives, all those stories. Its like an explosion of emotion and history to think they're all missed because they have lived and not because they have died

    Me Too :)

Really thought I was one of the very few that truly enjoy this. I remember the first time I went to a graveyard. It was when I was around 11 and went with my Granny. I still remember the feeling I got when I read a headstone of a young girl who died the year I was born. It was a...

I am terrified of funeral homes. I grew up in one practically during the summer with my grandparents but I am still terrified of funerals homes today.  Grave yards fascinate me however. I love walking through different graveyards to see when the first persons were born and...

I had to go back to Missouri recently. So while I was there I found many of my families old cemeteries. I was walking and looking at the ancient headstones and taking pics of them, when I came across one I had never seen before. It said....Rebecca-Consort of James Hill. Born 1839...

I know it's morbid, but I like walking through

and seeing how long people lived. If they were extremely old when they died, I like to make up an epic life for them. If they were younger when they died, I try to figure out the cause of death. If they were infants or children when they died, it makes me sad that they never got...

    It Makes A Great Date.

Me and my significant other do this sometimes. We make up stories for who the people might have been. We wonder about how they may have died, lived, who their relatives are. Packing a lunch and eating on a bench is great. Buying a few flowers and leaving them on/by graves that...

    I enjoy walking through cemeteries.

I want to know the stories of the deceased. I wish I could hear their reflection on their life. It's easy to get caught up in your petty problems, but a walk though a cemetery is humbling. It's such a strange feeling but it's peaceful.

    I'M Weird Like That...

Just sayin... I've done this many times. I love to go to the older sections of a cemetery and look through history. I often wonder who they were and how they died. Their tombstones are works of art, a lot different than ours.
