    City Of The Dead

Last year I walked the streets of the Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. It was the last week of October and the day was warm and partly cloudy. Just so peaceful. The tombs, graves, and memorials of so many that have gone on from the physical plane as we know it.I found myself...

    I went to one really,

really old cemetery, there's very few people buried there, and I also read their headstones, one may read like, "Mary went to Heaven at twelve because of Consumption" simple headstones and nothing else. Now I go around the modern day cemeteries, they have headstones with the...

I spend time at the other plots looking at names and dates.. Contemplating their lives and mine.

I did it while I was in Honor Guard.

Before the family arrived, we made sure everything was squared away at the grave site. While waiting I would look at surrounding graves. Depending on the cemetery, I'd often see other veterans' grave-stones. Veterans that are buried were WWI and II (of course), Korean, and...

    Peace

I am terrified of funeral homes. I grew up in one practically during the summer with my grandparents but I am still terrified of funerals homes today.  Grave yards fascinate me however. I love walking through different graveyards to see when the first persons were born and...

I walked through this old cemetery in Knoxville,

TN this evening. The oldest gravestone was for a prominent man who died in 1800. It was a very peaceful walk through the shady trees.

    Boo!

Safest place at night! Go exploring the past by looking at the gravestones. Who died, and how many that year in the graveyard? Everybody is dead, and yet when you read out their names honey become immortal, because they have not been forgotten. Of course, nobody dies, their...

    Fellowhood

Walking through graveyards and reading the names of those fellow humans that have gone before reminds me of how silly and useless it is to fear death.

    A Whole Life

There's a scene in the movie Trapped in Paradise where Nicolas Cage points out the dates on a headstone. He points to it and remarks that the dash between the born - died dates represent a whole life lived. I think the line is "Your whole life is in that dash". I find...

I visited this really old cemetery in

Cairns Overgrown and quite neglected but you can still read some of the tombstones, 1800s mostly. Nothing particular until I got back to my apt. I have a million mosquito bites! Or were they?

I have always loved to do this.

A graveyard is so peaceful and seems full of love. I think maybe because the family and friends who have lost their lived ones visit with beautiful flowers and leave that love behind. I often used to sit and have my lunch there and now enjoy travelling around to little country...

..specially in good company.I find cemeteries romantic and meaningful,it is like meeting people who are not here anymore, yet you get the valuable chance to know something about them.To pay tribute for those who are gone with respect and curiosity about their lives.

I had to go back to Missouri recently. So while I was there I found many of my families old cemeteries. I was walking and looking at the ancient headstones and taking pics of them, when I came across one I had never seen before. It said....Rebecca-Consort of James Hill. Born 1839...

    It Makes A Great Date.

    I'M Weird Like That...

Just sayin... I've done this many times. I love to go to the older sections of a cemetery and look through history. I often wonder who they were and how they died. Their tombstones are works of art, a lot different than ours.

There's a cemetery near my house.

Sometimes it's convenient to just cut through there on my way to soon place else. Sometimes I stop and read the headstones, and imagine the lives behind them. I don't think I ever want to know the truth behind them; I like my stories better.

    I enjoy walking through cemeteries.

I want to know the stories of the deceased. I wish I could hear their reflection on their life. It's easy to get caught up in your petty problems, but a walk though a cemetery is humbling. It's such a strange feeling but it's peaceful.

I know it's morbid, but I like walking through

and seeing how long people lived. If they were extremely old when they died, I like to make up an epic life for them. If they were younger when they died, I try to figure out the cause of death. If they were infants or children when they died, it makes me sad that they never got...
