I Love Watership Down

    Film and book

I saw this when it was first released in the cinema. It was part of a school outing. I remember being unnerved by it and fascinated by it in equal measures. It's not easy to say whether it is or is not a childrens' film. That would have to be a personal opinion. Best to watch it...

    Watership Down

I read this when I was 13 and fell passionately in love with it which led me to the redWall series

    Bright Eyes

I first saw the animated movie of Richard Adam's book on vacation . It had been a cold somewhat damp week so it was decided we'd check out the Movie Theatres and this was showing. The animation is done very much at rabbit level which helps you connect with the story of these...

    Turn Around, Bright Eyes..

"Prince with a thousand enemies.." whoever thought bunny rabbits could be so eloquent? In the simple creatures we find our limits and frontiers, seeing very clearly a path the complicated have made for us.

    Its All About the Rabbits

I read Watership Down the first time in the 7th grade. I loved it. Always have. Last year I was driving and the idiot DJ (maybe I'm the idiot for not changing the station) has a list of the best selling books - and he goes on this rant about how he doesn't understand how...

    The Last 20 Minutes...

I just saw the last 20 minutes; when they escape and the bird meets them at the bridge... "BIG WATER!!!" It was not a children's story...it was more violent than I imagined...but I liked it. I hope to watch the whole movie one day... The ending was beautiful. In the...

    Oh Wow

For the last couple of days I've been trying to think of this name!!!! And then I came across it by chance on here. My mum told me the other night that when I was little and they had no kiddies shows for family friends to watch when they came over, they  would put this on...

I loved the movie as a kid, even though it made me want to cry.  I never got around to reading the book until a couple of years ago, but I love it too.

    Wow What a Discovery!

I had never heard the story until I got a rabbit. I was blessed unexpectedly with one as a gift and let me tell you what a good gift it was.  It's funny because now that I had a rabbit the subject of Watership Down was always popping up!  I'm a great...

    What Wascally Wabbits!

One of my all time favorite books. I used to raise rabbits in the Philippines & I was always surprised when people would come over and do the "Aww how cute," thing. Even as a child I would think to myself, "Are you nuts? Do you know what evil critters they are...

    Experienced the charm,

wonder, thrills, and loyalty of Hazel et al for the first time last year, when I read WD aloud to my 9 yo daughter. Wonderful!

    I Bought The Film.

I love Watership Down but even as a (rather soppy) 20 year old I cry every time! "How can the light that burned so brightly, suddenly burn so pale?" Oh it breaks my heart! I guess the film teaches that nature is cruel.

They Dress It Up As a Kids Story

But it's a philosophically challenging read, and a very enjoyable cartoon movie. From Hazel's faith in Fiver's premonitions, to the comedic Kehar, and Bigwig's bravery in the stead of the fearsome General Woundwart - these are admirable characters with admirable traits, even if...

    Plague dogs

Years ago, I tried to read this book, but couldn't. It was too dark and too horrible for a ten-year-old boy. It's a long way from Watership Down, although it's definitely possible to see the parallels.  It's the differences that are clearest, though... Watership Down is about...

Sorry, I know it's not nice to post stories to groups you don't agree with, but that movie is just plain creepy.

    I Remember It Very Well

I watched it a few times as a child.  It always seemed to be on ITV on either a Saturday or public holiday afternoon.  The animation firstly struck me as the version I watched, very much was evidently sketched and was such a wonderful depiction of the English...

    Sweets At Murchison

I had to find a bookshop that had it. It was 77 i think.  Being doomed to dence dark pits of gehenna..,   i pinched a book from a shop, this rabit book,  and made myself read it over a never ending period.          The bus trip back home to Nelson went the inland route...

    Creepy Coincidence

So I've read the book and seen the movie countless times. It can be disturbing, but overall a wonderful story. So, 16 years ago, I was reading this book, in the car, on the way to the beach. My mom and baby brother were beside me. I get to the part where Fiver goes looking for...
