I didn't do much for my sixteenth birthday.

I was at a church retreat the week before, the Tuesday after we came back was my birthday. We sang and passed around a barrel of cheesepuffs in the showers. I had barely recovered from my first and most terrifying bout with depression. For my actual birthday we went out to eat...

    Although

It is a birthday I will always remember.  I spent mine in the hospital.  I remember it like it was yesterday, even though it has been almost 10 years.  It was on a Wednesday.  That Monday was presidents day, so no school, but I was feeling like $hit and slept...

I wanted one to enjoy with friends

and family and old friends. A great memory, nothing extravagant but the teen party experience. I told my mom years ahead like 2-3 years so she could "save" up but she blew it off, ignored me every time. Now she claims she feels bad about it. Every birthday she "didnt" have money...

    Grew Up Poor

I was working by the time I turned 16. I never knew my biological father, and had a really hard childhood. I was independent at 15, and had no family close by. A sweet 16 wasn't even a thought for anybody in my life.

and my dad doesn't want to spend a single cent on my b'day. You can't throw a party without spending any money. My mum's not to excited 'bout it either. It's gonna be my sweet 16 and I'm homeschooled too... It may not mean a lot for everyone, but its only once in a lifetime...

    Sweet 16 and Never Been...

If there's one time in my life I could have a do-over, it would be my 16th birthday. It's supposed to be this big thing. Crossing over into womanhood. Learning how to drive, or getting your first car. Really starting to take your first steps out into the world. I, unfortuantely...

When it comes to a Sweet Sixteen birthday party, it's important to a girl. When I saw what my mama did for my sister, Darla's Sweet Sixteen, I couldn't wait to get my Sweet Sixteen party. For my sister's 16th birthday, my mama had taken her out of school early, they went to lunch...

No. I never had one. Partly because I was too scared. Partly because I didn't want one. & partly because I only had one friend at the time. We also had very little money & my mom wouldn't have been able to afford anything. I don't even know if I got any presents or a cake that...

A Sweet 16 is a coming of age

for a young lady. On this special day in her life, she gets a small or big party, wear a gown, and shares her day with close family and friends. When I was 15 (2001), I had a notebook that was filled with phone numbers and addresses of venues, party favors and music I wanted...
