I've played the cello since I was 8, all the way through school. I loved playing it but I get incredibly nervous performing which meant I sucked at exams so stopped doing them as it took the fun out of it. I stopped lessons in my last year of school but still played in my...

Okay, im currently doing three octave scales

for an audition, and i cant help but wonder, does the fourth finger HAVE to land on the highest octave of the scale? Because i have alot more confidence, say after i play the harmonic A, i go right to first finger B to second finger C... Will the judges allow or take away from...

I studied the cello when I was younger

and played with two orchestras and one string quartet. Even though I have tiny hands, I managed to play many pieces I enjoy listening to, mainly the suites for cello solo by Bach. Now, my 12-year-old son studies the cello with my former teacher, and that's sheer bliss!

Comfort For A Lonely Little Girl- I know

that age 8 is kind of late to begin, but I had been playing Violin since age 5 and Flute since age 3, so it was hardly my 1st time playing an instrument. Flute was my passion. Violin I loathed so much that I ran off close to 10 teachers while I was learning. Cello fell somewhere...

    Its Apart of Me

As an eighth grader, i needed to get into something, simply because i though i was gonna be a failure in high school with nothing to take up my free time. Ive been playing the cello now for about 7 years. This instrument just grew with me and it crept into my heart slowly. As i...

    The Beatles

It was the acoustic/strings only version of "Eleanor Rigby" that I heard at age 21 that made me fall in love with the cello. It still makes my spine tingle for some reason. There's also a few others. One of them is Craig Armstrong's "Laura's Theme." I can't...

    Just Started...

I have played the violin for multiple years, but the sound is too high and pink. I decided to start cello, and currently I am teaching myself (with the help of youtube), playing on a friend's cello, and about the level of 1/2 way through suzuki book 1 (the violin one, played a...

    Cello Rhymes With Jello

The fact that it rhymes with Jello sort of sums up how it sounds: rich, wavery yet strong, mellow, gorgeous, delicious. Actually, to be truthful, I don't really play the cello that well. I technically play the viola and oboe, but my sister plays cello, so whenever she isn't...

He Looks Like Ernest Hemingway Or Santa Claus

That is what a lot of people said about my first cello teacher, "W". He taught me every Thursday afternoon for a half hour for a year and a half. I think almost two. I had so much fun! We would always laugh about something (same whenever I got to my doctor). He took my...

    Go Cello!

I've been playing for about 5.5 years, and still like it well enough. I've had 4, probably soon to be 5, different teachers over this time and have picked up a lot of conflicting techniques (high endpin vs. low endpin, close bow hold vs. spread out bow hold, spiritual/emotional...

for a year, but I'm first chair in my middle school chamber class, but it probably comes from playing violin since forever, but I always want to be better than I am, I guess that's a good thing though.

    My Adoration.

I'm on the edge of 15 right now, in fact I turn 16 in a little less than 3 days. I've been playing cello for 3 years. I was 13 when I played my first cello and I cannot comprehend how I've gone so long without ever playing it. I think I would've had a much happier existence if I...
