I Play the Organ

At the crematorium. It's a while

since I've played it, but the forlorn organ seems to have more stop lights than ever inoperative. You have to remember what ones you've pressed; as for pistons, you have to work out what stops apply by listening to the sound that comes out, not that I usually care for them as...

    Hymn for distraught Directors.

Immoral, Impossible, God only knows How tenors and basses, sopranos, altos At service on Sunday are rarely the same As those who on Thursday to choir practice came. Unready, unable to sight read the notes Nor counting, nor blending, they tighten their throats The descant so...

Sticky key. I arrived at the second church to

be warned that one of the keys was sticky and the incumbent organist didn't use it. I surmised that it might be honey, before they told me it was a B(!), the one above middle C. I also noticed that the B two octaves lower if anything stuck worse. So I suggested playing things in...

    Hammond B3:Rock'S Greateat Organ

I don't think it's going to be possible for me to get a traditional version of the legendary Hammond B3 organ into my room, but a portable version of this legendary organ(or even a Hammond SK1 or SK2 portable),that's different. Traditional or portable,it's going to be really...

    Transposing. I decided

that this hymn was a bit high for the congregation, so as it was an electronic instrument, I turned the transpose to -2 semitones. I then played a tone lower. As I result, I was reading the music in G, playing it in F and hearing it in E flat. All a bit confusing....
