    Viola Player, Sad But True

Ive played viola for about 5 years now, I started when I was in the sixth grade. Ive only ever had two, the one I loaned out for my years in middle school, and now I own my own. I named it Indigo Montoya. Anyone else find violist jokes sadistically amusing?

    My Viola's Name Is Franz

I've got to get something off my chest- I was a violinist first. Please don't hold it against me! I saw the light and converted. I love my instrument but wish it wasn't so darn hard on my shoulder- I've got plenty of old performance injuries. I don't play a...

    That's Vee-oh-laa Not Vy-oh-laa!

I love the viola. Yeah, I'm a nerd, but it really is one of the most gorgeous instruments in the musical world. Unlike the violin, which goes so high, even the dogs start figidting uncomfortably, the viola is like smooth, silky chocolate to the ears--exactly what music should be...

I'm glad I pulled out my old viola today.

For almost a decade I didn't even want to see it. The instrument represented everything that I could have been but couldn't be, but from today it's just going to be my friend :)

    Oh Wow, Who Knew?!

Did anyone else know that Jimi Hendrix played the viola before the guitar? If that isn't proof that the viola is a fantastic instrument, I really don't know what is! :D

    Favorite Piece?

My favorite so far is: Hindemith's Sonata Op. 25 for viola solo. What is your suggestion for the best piece to learn next in detail?

take out the bow, tighten the hair, watch the wood bend.  unwrap the rosin, rub it onto the delicate fibers.  carefully pick up the viola, cradle it with care.  the wood shines, warm rich wood, the scroll's elaborate craftmanship curls in perfect grooves...

The First Time We Met Lol

It was in 6Th grade at an H&H music convention at my school. They had all the orchestra instruments laid  out on tables.  And that's when I saw my viola.  One of the representatives was holding it in the air saying "this is the viola". And it was like...
