I Prefer Gentlemanlike Behavior

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 1,371 People

    Call me traditional or perhaps

even old fashioned, but I do prefer a man to be a gentleman. I grew up watching my father open the doors for my mother, hold her chair as she sat down, walk beside her and hold her hand or arm, and saw the tender devotion and strength that he had. He was the consummate gentleman...

    Nice Guys

I've always tried my utmost to be as respectful and polite as I possibly could to the ladies I speak with. Yes, I have urges and desires, but I only approach these subjects tactfully, and once we've reached a level of comfort with each other. Unfortunately, by that time, I...

"Me Too, I Just Love This Quality In A Man! They Are A Dying Breed."

When I saw this EP Experience Group, I just had to join it. I was just talking about this with my Aunt. She said something about it that rung true, "They are the last of a dying breed." Its not often that I see that "Gentleman" quality in men these days. It is a quality that is...

    Shame On You

It is most unfortunate but some men think that because they are on the internet, that it gives them the right to be rude to women. Case in point, an EP member had been pestering me for friendship.  He kept sending me messages to my whiteboard and I asked him why he wanted...

    But That Doesn't Mean Weak

I like gentleman like behavior, especially in how it relates to traditional interaction between men and women. I like when a man holds a door open for me, asks if I need assistance if I appear puzzled, overwhelmed or struggling with a physical task. I like when a man doesn't use...

I try to embody gentleman-like behavior.

I will admit that some of the physical practices, such as opening the woman's door for her, are probably rusty due to the 9 years since my divorce and lack of women of the appropriate age where I live. In addition, I do not move very fast due to my disability. If a woman...

Being a gentleman doesn't mean being a prude.

A true gentleman knows how to dance (figuratively) with a woman. He can make his intentions clear with subtlety and finesse and always respectfully. Don't under-estimate the power of words and gentlemanly behaviour.
