I Prefer Subtitles to Dubbing When It Comes to Foreign Films

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 327 People

I don't mind reading subs at all.

It doesn't take me out of the mood of the movie. Sometimes the dubbed voices sound weird, like they don't match up to the person speaking.

    Subtitles, For Sure.

I definitely prefer subtitles to dubbing-- in everything, not just foreign films. It's very hard for me to pay attention to dubbing because the translators are saying one thing but the mouths are moving in another direction. It takes so much of my concentration to not stare at...

    Me Too

Because the original language seems just original and dubbing feels awkward and put-on. If its a foreign movie with the actors, story and the whole environment of another part of the world, its more fun to listen to their language, expressions and what they're trying to say in...

It Makes Me Think Of Bad Kung Fu Movies?

I want to hear the person voice, their tone and inflection. I don't mind looking down at subtitles at all. I don't miss anything. Some people don't like it. But I'm a fast reader. :)

    Dubbing Is So Awkward

I love watching foreign movies. I have seen some with subtitles and some with dubbing (only because it wasn't available with subtitles at the time I watched the movie) and the dubbing always seem so awkward and weird. It is like they don't even try to make it good or at least...

Dubbing is just so fake, when people do the voices for dubbing it always sounds like some cartoon or anime voice, not a voice that people really would have and it makes the movie sound stupid. I think the native intonation, even if you can't understand what they are saying and...

Subtitles Help Me To Actually Watch The Film

It's too easy for me to put a movie on and then instantly be distracted by something else . When I have the subtitles going along with the natve language of the actors , I am able to sit and truly watch the movie in order to understand all that's really going on . My favorite has...

I've always found this very strange.  I've had many conversations with people from all over the world about the issue of over-dubbing.  (I used to teach English as a foreign language so met many people of various nationalities).   I've never understood how people from non...

    Subtitles Are Much Better

Oh yes, I'd much rather get the original experience intended by the actors/writers/directors when watching foreign language films/tv shows.... or at least as close as possible.   For me, dubbing somehow interferes with picking up on the subtle things, facial expressions, the...

    Only Alone

I can't stand dubbed films but i'm the only one in my house who can really cope with subtitles. My brother is only 11 so he can't always keep up (plus he has NO attention span) and my mum can't read as fast as most of the subtitles, some are ok but usually it's too fast. So i...
