Well, maybe he has a point after all. We in rich, well organized countries are far away from the plights of animals, let alone people in poor countries.

When we discuss Puerto Rico, should we not be more angry at the hundreds of owners who abandon their pets to die of starvation and decease on this island?

What the "artist" has done is merely to isolate the suffering of one of these dogs and by displaying it in an exhibition, exposed it to the rest of the world per email protest chains.

He has upset our little cute world where dogs are these happy animals with waggly tails we see in the park; well fed, well groomed and healthy.

Tell me, what is the difference between Mr Vargas and a photographer who takes a picture of a starving animal or a starving human and does nothing to ease their plight but to sell his pictures to different papers? Is the problem here that he does his display of the suffering within the confines of his studio instead of leaving it to die on the beach after capturing it through the lens?

To be honest, I think Mr Vargas is doing more for stray dogs than any single individual that is upset about his actions. He has put a focus on the situation in Puerto Rico, he may even have made some individuals aware of what awaits their pets if they just abandon them. Unfortunately, in the rich countries we are driven by images representing our reality. We are happy if these images show us one little puppy being rescued and we do little to check if at the same time 1000 children were starving in the same area.

Go ahead and hate this guy, but at the same time you should maybe thank him for showing the world a little more like it is. If we don't let ourselves concentrate too much on the man himself, but more on how we let ourselves be manipulated by our emotions maybe we can play a small part in addressing the real problems in the world...

[...] "nicknamed “Dead Dog Beach” because of the strays that roam the coast and are sometimes found dead of disease, starvation or gunshots."[...]

so allowing this dog to starve to death allowed other strays to be saved? Yea, I don't think so. He could do a lot more to help animals instead of exploiting a poor starving dog. And what do you do for animals? Applaud the shelters that put them to sleep instead of giving them a second chance? Huh? If he wanted to help animals he wouldn't let one starve. That is heartless. HOw can anyone see beauty in that?! It's sick and I hope you are someday able to see the perspective of the poor dog you jerk
