I Quit Drinking

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 145 People

I have been sober for one year,

seven months, and 27 days. One wouldn't think that I would still struggle not to drink but sometimes I do. Most sober people I meet, or recovering alcoholics I should say, seem to be completely used to the fact that they don't drink. But I still think about it, sometimes...

    I Quit, You Can Too!

On June 17 2008, I quit drinking cold turkey, on my own. I had been drinking for about  forty years in varying degrees, mostly acceptable, but I had become a regular binge drinker and was running the gauntlet of the law by driving while under the influence. I met an old friend...

I was always a casual drinker,

until my 4th child was born. Shortly after I gave birth, my husband started going away for work, gone two weeks home one. I was so overwhelmed with doing it all myself. We had moved across the country from my family a few years earlier. This was a recipe for disaster. It started...

    Not By Choice

I had to quit drinking, but not by choice.  The only thing I ever enjoyed drinking was beer.  In fact, from the early age of 16 until last fall, I was good for nearly a 12 pack a week.  Sometimes much more.  Sometimes much less. Then at age 39 I had my first gout attack.  Not...

I quit drinking over 500 days ago.

I don't go to AA. I went to 2 or 3 meetings at the start of my latest (not first) quest for sobriety. I guess I didn't go to a "good" meeting...that is I didn't connect with anyone there. It seems like no one had a job or a license; that they discussed the struggle for rides...

    Sober Is Great

I didn't start drinking until I was 38.  I then got drunk once, for nine years.  I've now been sober for two years.  Everyone of us that have chosen sobriety have the right to be very proud!  My hats off to each and everyone of you.

I'm a petite person. It doesn't take much to get me drunk...I'm a cheap drunk! lol  When I'm drunk, I tend to get too careless.  Which made my situations very unsafe.  I'm also trying to become a healthier person, and live a healthier life. Alcohol tastes bad...

    Blech, Yes

The last time I drank alcohol was a couple of months ago. I drank champagne and vodka together and blacked out...woke up and puked my guts out over and over. It was extremely unpleasant and it was no fun at all. Alcohol is not appealing to me at all now.

I love drinking. That bit after about four pints when you feel you can rule the world is amazing. However, I have no STOP button. When I was younger (I'm 41) I'd get drunk with my mates, as you do. Nothing wrong there. It was the 80's, the pubs closed at 11 and it was all...
