    Word Power

I just love words, i used to be a bit crossword fan but i got bored of them. I did Eng Lit. at university and love to write for myself so it's useful to have a wide range of words from which to choose. I'm always interested in the origin of words and phrases too.

Heehee...boy I am so glad to know I'm not the only one! I did love to read the dictionary when bored. It certainly helped when I read books with advanced vocabulary. Words are powerful because their meanings are powerful.

    Laying In Bed Last Night,

the past several nights actually, I've found myself completely enthralled with my dictionary. I've been working on Carl Sagan's book, Science as a Candle in the Dark, and ever so often I come across a word I have no earthly idea what it means. My dictionary always rests next to...

    I Love Words.

I can't get enough of them. So when I'm bored, I whip out my dictionary. It's the latest edition from oxford. I love being able to pop out a fancy word in a conversation. The dictionary is my best friend. :D

The dictionary is one of my favorite reads- I like to take it with me into waiting rooms, etc, so I can learn a few new things while I wait. Yes. I am a nerd.

Did This Quite Often In High School...

I used to love going through the dictionary & picking out words that I liked. I would pick words that looked &/or sounded interesting, sexy, or that just rolled off the tongue. I even went as far as to keep a notebook of those words & their meanings! I'm sure I still have it...

    Probably A Confession ...

Admitting to reading the dictionary for fun is probably more of a confession than a story ... lol ... but I'm afraid I have been known to do this quite often.  I have been caught skimming through a thesaurus too ... but that's another confession/story ... haha

    My Friend With Adhd

I had a friend who had ADHD she was extremely energetic and hyper.  We were hanging out at her house one time and we were trying to think of something to do.  She wanted to read the dictionary.  Not really my thing but I said ok.  She started with the A's...

    Great Entertainment!

I'm fascinated with etymology, so reading dictionaries is a natural for me.  I don't remember when I started - sometime before 5th grade, I'm sure.  I mean, how many other books are there where you can guarantee that any page you flip to will be interesting?  Not...
