I Read the Entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 260 People

I've Read The Lord Of The Rings Twice

I read it as a kid back in the early 1970's and then I read it again about 10 years ago, before the movie came out. I have to say, Peter Jackson did a fabulous job. I know he deviated from the books on several different occasions. But then that's what film directors do. It's...

I Don't Like Hobbit People Who Like Hobbits And Think It's Respectable.

IT IS NOT AS RESPECTABLE AS THOUGHT BY YOU. But I don't mind, I'm not you, but I don't like pointy ears on short people or tall people, unless they're cat ears.

    Lothlorein

I started reading the trilogy a few times before I made it right through. The first time I was about 12 and got so frightened that I stopped - it was the scene where sam and frodo are hiding from the black riders and the black rider gets off his horse and starts...

    I Want More

I've read the trilogy, reread it and will read them again. I always find something new, something I've missed. And after I finish, I still want more of middle earth. I think this is one of the greatest works in the history of literature.  I can always throw the movie in the DVD...

    Slow Start, Exciting Finish

A friend lent me The Hobbit and I started to read it but just couldn't get into it so I returned it. Fast forward a few years and I bought it, devoured it like it was my precious! Went on to read the rest, bought beautiful slip cased editions, read everything else he wrote. I...

    The First Time Was 1970

As soon as I finished it I immediately started it again!  I think that I have read it about 5 or 6 times since then.  The movies were good but could never match the depth and and richness of Tolkien's books.

These books, along with The Hobbit,

were my best friends growing up! I've probably read them at least 20 times to date, and the story never gets old. Tolkien was a genius, as well as a fabulous writer!

    And Struggled...

Sure, I read all the lord of the rings books. And yes, they were great books... But am I the only one who struggled to get through the first book? I found it to be too drawn out. And I would say if the movies hadn't of been coming out, I probably would not have carried on to...

Evil Comes From A Want To Control.

I am watching Lord of the Rings movie for a second time (read it once). I think the story really is about goals/ego/ambition in some way. The nature of evil. I think religion also help us deal with this. An attempt to create to some extent involves ego. Not necessarily in a...

To my three children, when they were younger. It took about three weeks of reading a short while each day. I read to them until I noticed them start to fidget, as kids will do when made to sit still for any length of time, and said,"OK, that's enough until tomorrow!" and I put...
