I Saw It Happen With My Own Eyes...

I was working for Gould Computer Systems in Fort Lauderdale back then. My office was on the upper floor of a building and our windows faced NE so we could always see the shuttle launch when it climbed high enough, weather permitting. On that day there wasn't a cloud in the sky...

I Was Only 7 When It Happened

so I don't really remember much about Challenger, but I do remember the day we lost Columbia very clearly. I had always been into NASA but never really paid a lot of attention to the shuttle, I liked to stargaze and see distant planets up close through my dad's telescope.

Mission Sts-51l Is Always In My Memories

I remember asking my mother that morning if I could stay home from school and watch the liftoff.  She said no and I went off to class as I did every day.  For no real reason, my mother took a picture of me going down the stairs as I left that day.  Whatever we studied in class...

I was still at school and the class i was in was watching the shuttle launch as a treat. I always wanted to go in to space and was a space nut , so this was very exciting to me. As we sat down and the launch began I was really enjoying myself seeing the shuttle preparing itself...

    I Do Remember Challenger

I was both listening to the radio and watching TV when that happened. I got absolutely totally shaken and much hurt to the deepest. For a few months after that I was feeling a very deep bleeding wound in the deepest in my heart/soul.    Many people cannot...

    January 1986

We were having a great time in the Chicago area, having dominated football - and pop culture - with our Chicago Bears!  Our victory came on January 26th, so it was a high we would be on for a long time... we thought. I was in my cooking/home ec class on the first...

I only know about the Challenger Space Shuttle because I was told about it by family. I was only 3 days old when it happened. My mom was bringing me home for the first time from the hospital when the shuttle exploded.

    I Saw The Explosion

I was living in Tampa Florida. I was driving on the interstate and happened to look out the driver side window. There was a plume of smoke in the far distance. I knew that the shuttle was going up that day and thought "that was odd". It wasn't until after I returned home that...

    Ice Storm

The summer before, I had done schematics for the GPS #13 satellite that was aboard Challenger. After completing the task, I had taken more classes, and completed another design task. I was not working, had finished those tasks/classes, so I watched on the TV. I was trying to...

    Space Was The Family Business

I have to be careful what I say given some of the things I write here - I wouldn't want anyone to be able to identify me. But, it's fair to say that as much as anyone can make the claim, in my family space exploration is a "family business." My grandfather was a rocket scientist...
