    8 - 5 1/4 - 3 1/2 And Smaller

I remember the 8" floppy disks they were the first ones that I heard of. First ones I actually used were the 5 1/4" disks. I used those with my Commodore 64. Then, when I started going to actual computer classes, they used the 3 1/2" with the hard case. But, before ANY of that...

    Boy, Do I...

Those things were evil. They were always getting erased so easily! I had a camera in high school that used floppy disks. Can you believe it was over $200 at that time? Boy we've come a looong way! Especially since my pictures were always getting erased from those stinkin' things...

We've Come A Long Way Since Then.

My first computer had a single sided, 10 hard sector, floppy disc with 90k bytes storage.  We would use a paper punch and punch another hole on the back side and use both sides.  So daring! I replaced that with two half height floppies, still 5+ inches, but with...

I remember playing wizardry as a youngster and it had almost no color and the graphics were real sloppy. If kids today came across a game like that they would call it lame. Wizardry was a blast and a half until I teleported my party into a wall and had to start over. I wasn...

    By The Way...

The icon to this group is wrong. You youngsters may think those hard, 3.5-inchers are floppies, but you're wrong. Those are diskettes. Floppies are about five inches square, and they actually flop.

Floppy Disks Are Still Being Used

I was young when Flopp Disks were still popular. I remember using a couple of them at school, but then junk dives started to come out. At the public library that I work at we still sell them and every now and then someone will buy one. We sell them cheap and the reason we have...

I'm only 19 and I remember floppy disks (the actual floppy ones and the hard ones)! When I was a kid we had some but I'm not too sure what they were for. I think some of them might of had games of some sort on them. I remember putting them in the computer though so they must...

    Back in ancient times,

the introduction of the double sided 3.5 800kb floppy disk drive was big news. You needed floppy disks to do anything with a computer. In 1988, all the system files and storage files for my new MacPlus fit on two 800kb floppy disks. You inserted the 800kb system floppy disk to...

    Way Back When

I had an old Epson Equity built in 1987 and it used the 5.25" floppy disks that were indeed truly floppy, unlike the smaller 3.5" many people know.

I was born when floppy disks were on the way out, and CD's were on the way in. By the time I was 8, floppy disks were long gone and biting dust. So my memory of them is pretty hazy. But I do remember them. I definately do.

I Remember When They Were Floppy

I don't mean the small hard plastic 1.4MB discs, my first computer used the 5.5inch discs that were about as flexible as an envelope. the computer had a green screen and only had dos and no hard drive. I'm not kidding you had to boot from the disc every time you turned it on.
