I Rescue Animals

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 202 People

All my animals have come from abusive homes

or neglect where I've taken them from. I psychological and physically rehabilitate them before getting them adopted out. I get to see the sad part of it where some of them can't be helped, the damage is too deep. Makes me despise people for even animals don't play with their...

    But No More Purebreds

Every cat or dog who has shared my home was rescued from something. But the Shar-pei who was going to be put down almost bankrupted me - so in-bred his vet can retire -  but a wonderful, loinvg companion I still miss!

    Doggy Foster Mommy

About 4 years ago my husband and I adopted a Retired Racing Greyhound. We got him from the local Humane Society and didn't get any information from them about the breed. We knew that the Retired Racers had special needs so we set out on an Internet search to find out all we could...

    Not In The Traditional Sense.

My current cat is a "rescue", but he didn't come from a shelter. He'd been left behind when his owner, a man who lived up the street from us, moved out. His neighbors heard him meowing, and generously destroyed several windows to let him out (an added bonus, since the horrible...

    I Love Dogs

I have a husky mix that I saved from a kill shelter. He had been there for three months already. He is beautiful with a pure white coat and has one brown eye and one blue eye. He's a sweet energetic dog. He never barks, instead he talks. Before that we rescued a Saint Bernard...

Not So Fast, My Friend: The Story Of Sterling

There was a time in my life where I felt incapable. If you can fathom such a thing, I had been brutalized to the point of mental instability where I couldn't form a linear train of thought in my head. At a time of my life where the presence of another human being terrified me...

While I don't think eating meat is evil,

I believe the killing and torture of animals for convenience is evil. If there's a spider in my room I take it out instead of smash it. If I want a burger, I buy meat from a company that raises its cows out in fields with grass and sun instead of confined to dark cages.

    Every Animal Deserves a Chance

Well, I've been rescuing animals as long as I can remember. I think I was 10 when I took in my first rescue, a mix breed puppy that nobody wanted. Since then I've taken in and found homes for 15 cats and 9 dogs. In fact three of my dogs are from those rescues...a coonhound and...

Dykw To Do To Help Birds When They Crash Into Windows?

Its so sad whenever a bird crashes into a window. Not many people know what to do to help them. Many people assume the bird is dead when it is not and leave them to die. Nature has provided a natural survival mechanism for birds when they are stunned. The blood in their body...

    My Home, the Rescue...

Ever since I was a child I have been bringing home sick, lost or homeless animals to nurse back to health and either release (if wild/undomesticated) or rehome.  Many have found, especially after I became an adult, that rehoming is actually getting a name and a permanent...

The last rescue was a pup barely weighed 2lbs.

He was in an inner-city alley. He was so weak, he could barely stand or walk. I thought he just needed water and food, but later that night he became very ill. I called ER Vet for advice to get him through the night then took him in next morning (a Sunday). They diagnosed him...
