I Saw a Drive-in Movie

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 301 People

I got into trouble the night my best friend

and I went to the drive-in. We were still in high school (circa 1977) and had some bottle rockets left over from the 4th of July. I shot a few a the screen during the movie, but we got bored doing that so we left. We drove around shooting them out the windows until some old...

    Bless Baby Brother

There's a drive-in about 45 minutes from where I live. My parents used to take us at least once every summer. When my brother was around 9 he said he wanted to sneak in. So we stopped and got a bite to eat right down the road from the drive-in and my daddy let brother jump in the...

    Atlanta Has a 6-screen Drive-in!

It's called the Starlite 6 Drive-In. And as the name suggests, there are 6, yes 6, separate screens! Each screen shows 2 different flicks, for a total of 12, and the admission price covers both movies on the screen you choose. Once a month in the summer they have a "Mondo Movie...

    Not My Thing

The first one I recall going to was Project X with my family and childhood friend and neighbor Kristina. I remember her distracting me throughout it. She is four years younger and was still quite small. I recall having to take her to the bathroom, get snacks, etc. The last one I...

    When I Was A Kid

We'd go to this one called The Skydrome my folks and I to see Elvis Presley movies like Viva Las Vegas which was the first time I've ever seen Elvis. He was cool but Ann Margret was way cooler I thought. I saw The Beatles in Hard Day's Night too there. Rocked my world pretty much...

As a Kid, and On a Date, Because I Lived On the East Coast Then,

I think there's one a bunch of miles from here, but the thrill is gone - I am beyond the "make out in a car" stage, and I appreciate surround sound and a sharp focus - that's why I watch films at home!

    My Parents Conversion Van

Oh the memories.  Back in High School we would pile a bunch of us into my Dad's conversion van.  We hid as many as we could...some were in the slide out bed that was above the driver...some in the little closet in the back.  Then we all chipped in to pay for the...

    Practically Live There!

We have a drive-in theatre just outside the city that I live in.  They built it up with all the classic details--kid-friendly playground, patio outside a concessions stand that serves everything from sodas, candy, and popcorn all the way up to the best grease-pit...

    I Don't Like the Drive-in

We actually are one of the very few places in this country that have a drive-in in town.  I've been there a handful of times, but quit going. I couldn't enjoy the movie like I can in a theatre.  I think the concept is cool.  We would lay out a big blanket in the...

I think there are 2 left here in town.

One of them is supposed to have been in operation since 1951 I think.

    Double Feature

In Plymouth, IN, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Cars. It was fun but tiring, since it didn't start until like 8 or 9 at night and the first movie was almost 3 hours, we didn't get home till way late, but it was a cool experience. One I would like to have again. :)

    I Love the Drive In

Where else can you bring in your own cooler filled with soda and chain smoke through a relatively cheap double feature! My only real problem with drive ins is my paranoia that I am going to drain the battery in my car, but that is a story for a different experience group.

    A Few Times

I have seen a few movies at drive-ins.  The first was on vacation 35ish years ago.  It was butch cassidy and the sundance kid,  and this is still one of my favorite movies.  I did the date thing and the drinking with your buddies thing.  The sad thing is...

    Haven't Gone To Any Drive-ins

I remember a Drive-In Theatre in my area about 10 - 15 years ago.  I've always wanted to go there but I just couldn't seem to find the time to go.  I regret it now.  I don't think I'd ever be able to have the Drive-In experience.  But there is a Draft House nearby.  I love...

There aren't many drive-ins left...But my town still has one. It's open every summer. In fact, it's open now...but I have nobody to go with, and no car to go alone. I have been there before at least a handful of times. It's a cool experience. I'd like to go again with some...

For Some Reason I Remember Seeing Corvette Summer...

Drive-ins were on the way out when I was growing up in the 70s... and about the only film I remember seeing at the drive-in of my then-small Texas town was "Corvette Summer" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corvette_Summer ). It was the summer of 1978. This film was HUGENORMOUS...

I Miss The Old Drive Ins.. And Old Cinemas

they have a feel all of their own .... today its nostalgic... but back then we took it for granted as a suburban working class life-style... I remember the old Capalaba drive in where the shopping centre is now... and I remember going to the Ipswich Tivolli drive in also... we...

Drive Right In to Memory Lane.

I grew up going to Drive in movies, followed by burgers at a Drive in Restaurant.  I had thought I had seen the last of both until we moved out into this rural area.  Not more than 5 minutes from our home is a lovely, renovated Drive In that shows first release...

    Several, Still Could Too

I'm lucky enough to live where there's still a drive in theater fairly close to me.  I know they're a rarity these days but there's nothing better than a late night movie on a nice summer night, just having a good time with friends.  I've even seen people barbecue lol...

There is a drive-in in a nearby town that we go to a lot in the summer. This is a custom that is a little strange to me. There is always a double feature. One for the kids and the later one is for the adults. On Monday nights, ten bucks gets you and however many people can fit...

My first time at a drive-in was less than spectacular.  I fell asleep during Lara Croft AND lost my gameboy color by leaving it on the ground when I got in the car (stupid stupid stupid)  I was awake for The Animal however and enjoyed it a bit.  Don't remember much...
