    Apparently this makes people ask

if I was born in the States. "No, I was not born in the U.S." It happened in middle school (apparently this is an American term too? In Canada we have "junior high school"), after studying The Outsiders. Soda Pop was my favourite character and when I drink soda I call it that...

Was Pop It Is Now Soda, I Can't Seem To Switch Back.

I grew up in Ohio calling it pop. After college, I moved to California where no one knew what the hell I was talking about, so I switched to soda. Now, that I have moved back closer to home, everyone calls it pop, but I can't seem to switch back. It just sounds funny to me...

    Haven't Always

I'm pretty sure I called it "pop" until my family moved to the Midwest when I was in early grade school.  I remember this guy offering me a "soda" and I didn't know what he meant!  It took seeing him pour a can of Coke for me to figure out what he was offering me.Well, I lived...

    It's the Way It Is

Hey, that's what it is ... soda. It's soda pop. So soda is right. Besides that the way I was raised. That's what everybody called it. So that's what I call it. It's fitting and proper.

    I'm Not Really Sure Why.

I don't even know when I started or if I ever used "pop" very often to begin with. Soda does sound better to me though.

We Say Neither In The Uk

In the UK soda means soda water, ie carbonated water. I'd be prepared to bet that this was the original meaning in the US too. Before fizzy drinks were sold in huge commercial quantities, people would add different flavoured cordials to their soda water to give it different...

Is There a Regional Dialect Utopia?

Recently I was actually talking about the subject of regional linguistics with a friend of mine.  With me traveling so frequently I pick up on these things more often than another person may.  He was saying that he read somewhere that America was losing regional...

I Am A Notherner That Says Soda

It has always been soda to me. I used to tease a high school girl friend that pop was our dad's and we couldn't drink them. Once you start down a path like this it's hard to run back so maybe I just go pour me a glass of soda in the kitchen.

But I Only Have One Use For It......

As a mixer! The only time I drink soda is as  mixer with my jim beam...or what not.  Sometimes gingerale is good with a vodka concoction.  Orange soda can go with vodka too.  Captain and coke is a nice fall back drink when I run out of Jimmy.

    Us Midwesterners Are Wrong

Here in Michigan most everybody says "pop" but I almost always say soda. It sounds classier. Pop sounds ******* stupid when used to describe a carbonated beverage, if you ask me. It sounds gay - not actual homosexual gay, not that there's anything wrong with that - but midwestern...

    I Don't Talk Like a Retard

I hate it when people say pop. I mean seriously, do you enjoy sounding like an ignorant hillbilly? Same goes for the word ain't. I'm not, Isn't, why don't you just say that instead? I know I'm kinda crazy about this, but it just really makes me mad that people...

In The South, It's All "coke"

I have always said "soda", but here in the south, it's really common for every carbonated beverage (no matter what kind) to be referred to as "Coke". Why? I have NO idea. lol

    I Don't Even Do That..

Instead of saying soda, I seem to always just react and say Coke. To me it seems that "soda" is "coke" whether I want a Pepsi, Mountain Dew, or any kind of "Soda"I guess that's what you get for being a coke addict.
