The act of smiling at a stranger makes me happy

in itself. But receiving a smile in return is enough for me to skip merrily for the rest of the day

For the first time in a

while I had a good day. School wasn't so bad. I went out to eat with a friend & I gave money to a homeless family which made me feel good to know that I somewhat made a difference in someone else's day because I feel like I don't do that often

    I always smile at everyone.

No matter if they look approachable or no matter the race or age. It's incredible how easy it is to turn someone's frown into an uplifting smile. Some give me an awkward hello back or just look at me awkwardly.Sometimes, they're genuinely surprised and smile back. Other times...

    Sometimes there are days

when I feel down. I feel like I'm just a faceless figure in a crowd. I'd walk with my head down, avoiding eye contact with people. But then once in a while I'd glance up to watch where I'm going and accidentally catch a stranger's eye. And then that person smiles at me...

Ladies, there is nothing wrong with making eye

contact with total strangers when you're in public. Not all men are out to do you harm. Some of us are being friendly. It's a form of non-verbal communication. Don't be shy or scared or creeped out or whatever it is you feel. You know, if your kids are driving you nuts while...

But They Think I'm An Alien

When I smile at people on the street, I get the weirdest looks.  You would think I had 3 heads or something.  After a few interactions like that, I stop looking at people altogether and just pretend I am one of them.  It's very rare that I come across someone...

I was having breakfast this morning

and a gentleman sat down at the next table. I smiled as I always do and we chatted off and on. He seemed really nice, and I thought little of it, but he was waiting outside when I left. I love to smile and be friendly, but it can be misconstrued.

There is so much more to a smile

than we tend to realize. Certainly a smile can convey mood, or mask it in some cases. A smile reflects happiness or finding humor in something or simply being so at ease that it occurs quite naturally with no internal or external stimulus. Beyond the personal it can project...

I believe a genuine smile is so powerful, and I like to think my smile might have a positive impact on someone else's day. Looks can be so deceiving, and you never know how badly someone may be hurting inside. My favorite part is when they smile back! :)
