Sort of. My Mandarin is almost non-existent

but most of the time I can understand certain words; I'd sort of get the gist of what they'd be saying. But there are times I'd get it completely wrong. My sister is the same. The other day she wanted to order lunch at a Chinese restaurant. She confidently ordered a plate of...

The language I speak most fluently is English,

which is funny because it's the secondary language in my country. I can also speak Malay (official language here) - though the local dialect is more comfortable for me. I'm half-Chinese, but can barely speak basic Mandarin, I can understand better than I speak it though (however...

    I speak English, Spanish,

ASL, some French, and very little German. I wish I had people to practice these with. I speak a lot of Spanish at work but it'd be nice to sign or speak French with someone. Anyone else have know a second language that they never use?

but am above conversational level in only a handful of them. Latin and German for 2 years, Swedish for 6 years and English for 13 years; Finnish is my mothertongue. Then the basics in Japanese, Spanish and French.

Okay so I speak a few languages,

but that's not the point. What irritates the **** out of me is when grammar nazi's try to correct me when I messed up the syntax. Do you ever do that? Write or speak in your 2nd or 3rd etc. language but accidentally use the syntax rules from your 1st?

There's a saying in Malay - "makan gaji buta" -

I don't know what the English equivalent is. But a direct translation is "eat blind salary". It basically means you get paid without actually doing work. This is how I feel about some of the people I have to work with.
