I Stutter

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 581 People

I have stuttered since i was six.

So it's been 13 years now. And it has been a severe one. I used to get really bullied in school but now in college i have a wonderful group of friends who are patient enough to wait until i complete. But sometimes its too exhausting to talk. The words just don't come out.

This year has been going great.

I finally said a sentence where I did not stutter. 16 years of my life I spent hiding behind my own shadow, choosing not to speak when I had everything in my mind trying to escape from my mouth. But this year, I had chosen to take up speech therapy, and it was the best decision...

Went through a dark period where I abused alcohol to drown out my stuttering and feelings towards it. I've gotten better through the years but battle with this flaw everyday

Stuttering is one of the things I hate about

myself. Whenever I'm nervous, my words slip out of my mouth. It's so embarassing, especially when I read stuff aloud in school. One time I presented a project for school and I stuttered so much people were laughing. I just hate it how people can speak so perfectly even when...

    It's not very noticeable

and it doesn't happen all the time. My mouth tends to run before my thoughts even formulate correctly so it leaves me stuttering to properly form a sentence, but it only happens occasionally. Mostly when I'm taken from my daydream, don't know what to say or extremely nervous or...

telling us to "slow down" or "take our time" is annoying and we're sick of trying to explain the concept. finishing our sentences is degrading and pausing the show you're watching and saying "there I paused it so that you can speak clearer" is the rudest thing I've ever heard of...
