I Talk to Animals

They Know It When You Do

For some years i went to the zoo regularly. Not only because it's a beautiful park in the heart of the city, but also to deal with the animals. Some of them could hardly live with imprisonment. The sadness in their eyes and their neurotic behavior were eloquent. Others...

The other day I was cleaning

and fileting some salmon, pretty focused on the task,a bit out of practice, paying attention to the sweetly sharp and potentially deadly blade,half-whistling a dimly remembered little Irish tune when the cat interjected: "mrrowwwr, meowrrrmmmrrrr? roumnnn? mrooowwrrr?" or...

    My Hero, My Friend...

I don't know how it started, I just happened to notice one day that I was talking and there was no one in the room with me, except Dorothy.  Dorothy is a great gal, she's single girl, has her own place, very independent...she tends to mind her own business and avoids gossip like...

I Love My Pets. . . All Of Them

Do stuffed animal count too? I've had a fish, and three dogs. But the ones who I talk to the most are my stuffed toys. I'm fifteen and still play with them. It that weird? I feel weird when talking to them. I even move them around as they 'talk' back. Yeah, talk back. Not to...

I Reasoned With a Crowd of Steers

I was on a hike one day when I had to walk through a field of young bulls.  I walked slowly through the field, hoping not to attract too much attention to myself, but they soon saw me and made chase.  I did not run, knowing this would only make them worse, so carried on...

    Dr. Doolittle

I am a regular Dr. Doolittle.  I have always talked to animals, my own and any other animal that crossed my path.  I think they understand a lot more than some people give them credit for.  I don't think it is just the tone of your voice.  I think there is...

    A Habit

I'm always talking to my cats and any animal that crosses my path. I really do think that they respond to humans talking. When they respond back to my comments, I sometimes know what they are saying. I love how excited they get when I talk to them, maybe 'cause humans don't...

    Unofficial Pets

I don't have any pets but every time I go to Wal Mart I take time to go by the fish and talk to them. I'm not quite sure why I have started doing this because I never liked the idea of having fish as pets but now, it doesn't seem like such a bad idea. I don't use a baby voice or...

I especially enjoy talking to my cats.

They don't seem to give a hoot. And how can I stay mad at them given they always look so sweet and innocent.

Am I A Lizard Shaman Now? And Wisdom From A Lizard

One day i opened up my front door and there was a lizard sitting in a disgusting bucket of car-soap from a car-wash-a-couple-day's-previous, all bloated up and pink. Naturally aghast, I made some sea-grape-leaf/green tea and let the poor creature soak for a few hours in it. I...

I think that body language and physical contact is an important part of communicating. My cat loves to hold my hand. My cats love to talk to me. I repeat the same words and sentences to them and can only hope they can connect the feeling to it.

    Crazy? Me??? Perhaps

We all know animals don't speak human language but no harm done if we talk to them. Right now I only have hamsters but even my hamsters know whether it's me or someone else. After I wake up, I check on them and call them 'my babies' and say goodbye when I leave for work (nobody's...

    I'm Not Crazy...

Really. My dog likes it when I talk to him. He snuggles up close to my face and puts his paw on my lips. If I don't say anything, he kinda taps it until I do talk. He likes when I say his name...

    An Outlet

I like talking to animals. They don't judge you on what you say, they provide comfort and a peaceful state not only in mind but in body. If I don't feel like writing I will talk to my cats while they cuddle up for attention. I've even talked to a few animals at the zoo just for...

    I always talk to animals,

but I have a dog who mostly understands me. When she looses a toy I'll tell her to find it. She always looks but she gets distracted I'll tell her she's not looking hard enough and she's search every nook and cranny she thinks of. It's great. I don't even need to gesture or...

I talk to animals. But sometimes my voice

changes when I do. It's a habit picked up from my mom when I was a kid. When I talk to my cat my voice goes into a higher pitch. When I talk to dogs it goes into a lower pitch. Does anyone else change their voice when talking to animals?

    My Cat

When my cat was still alive I would talk to her all the time. She would just look back up at me like I was crazy. Which I probably was, because I was talking to a cat. But she was excellent at nonverbal communication and could always make me smile. She's the one that defined...

    Speaking To The Animals

Of course, I speak to animals. They nearly always communicate back through their actions, or maybe the way they look at you with their eyes. My cat is an outside cat for the most part and when I go outside, he comes up and pets my leg with his body. I had a donkey I talked to for...
