I Think Children Are Growing Up Too Fast

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 4,260 People

I live right next to a school

so I often see little kids going to school and going home. A few weeks ago I saw what looked like a 7 year old girl with an iPhone 5. I could just here what she was saying, I think she was talking to her friend. And what's worse is that she had the teenage girl way of talking...

A Conversation With My 11 Yr. Old Daughter

Yesterday we were out shopping. I was at the lingerie department shopping for comfortable cotton underwear.  I always prefer boyshorts and those have a tendency to come in wild colors and prints.  I had a handful of them in my hand and couldn't decide which ones to buy...

My kids are probably not going to like me

for this, but they will not have their own tv or computer in their room at least until age 16, most likely. Depends on the kid. They won't have a cell phone until 15 or whenever I see fit (it will be more for me to get a hold of them). Not allowed to date until 16, maybe even 18...

Its a great shame that the pressure to be

'grown up' now seems to start even before the teenage years, TV and the internet pressures our children to conform and be young adult consumers, rather than carefree curious explorers

Personally I think kids are growing up to fast.

And I don't just say that because my daughter is back in diapers. I'm guilty of it as well. I often focus to much on impressing other moms and dads over what is best for her. I'm trying to be better about it but it isn't always easy.
