I Think Grades Do Not Decide How Intelligent You Are

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 4,434 People

Some people were made to be book smart

and some weren't. But all the other kind of smart are barely appreciated. Like we all have talents, but their just put in the hobby category. It should be our job. I don't want to have a job that I have no interest in or I don't feel happy doing it. I want a job where my talent...

I am a smart girl and I love learning,

but my grades suffered after my depression became unbearable. After two semesters of failed grades I was promptly suspended with the notion that I'm a horribly sorry excuse of a mess, that I'm not good enough for college and not smart enough to make it in the big kid world. But...

Grades are a measure of your education.

I.Q. is a rough indication of intelligence. The two things are entirely different. High intelligence usually just means that you can solve cryptic crosswords faster than someone with lower intelligence. Most employers are interested not in intelligence, but in the ability to...

I've been in these stupid higher level classes

since 6th grade. I've been in AVID since 8th grade. I took my first AP class as a freshman. I'm still in honors, take AP LANG, AVID 3, and ACCEL US HIST. I have no personal life because I'm always doing school work. Report cards came out, and no one is considering the fact that...

I'm book smart and I love to read,

but I hate being in a class room so someone can dictate to me what to learn. I've quit A levels twice but that doesn't mean I'm stupid, I just don't want to be retain facts without knowing how to use them irl.

They would only if all other variables were

but I'm so stupid, I can't answer easy things, I can't manage simple things, I feel like I have a child's brain! And yet I see some bad students like 11/20 and how intelligent they are! I hooe their grades will not affect their future and that they'll find a way to go far in...

I hate how society rates people by numbers!

I was talking with my friend about my GPA this year and it's at a D+ and she keeps telling me "You need to get that up" "You won't get anywhere in life if that's how bad you do in school" and I end up crying and thinking "Great, another person to rate me with numbers"

I'm proof of that. I always did okay in school

but was easily bored. It wasn't until later that it was discovered that I had a high I.Q. and was brighter than my teachers. Explained everything.

Grades are helpful. They tell us about one

aspect of a person and help employers and we can tell when we make progress. They DON'T tell anything about a person's worth. They shouldn't decide social status. They are not intended for one parent to patronise another. They do not tell us that one school is better than...

grades don't matter. they only push people to

cram information for the few months they need the grade to move on. if you take away grades and focus more on actually learning and applying it to actual life then people learn more.
