I Think the Zoo Is Sad

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 251 People

    Very little people realize

that 90% of the animals were taken from their kind AND are obese. Especially the big cats and wolves. OR their enclosures are WAY TOO small for them. There isnt alot of play sessions and the animals are told when to eat and when they do its way too much.

    Hypocrisy No#262

Zoos are criminal.  Everything about them is an abhorrence. But that's not what makes them sad.  What makes them sad is personal.  I have fond memories of zoos because getting to see the magnificent creatures is such  wonderful thing.  I don't want to be all Disney about it...

So Grateful To Not Be Alone!

When I was 30 years old, I was in San Diego on business. I decided a trip to the esteemed SD Zoo was in order. My husband had flown out to join me and I was in great spirits. As we drove there, my husband was shocked when I told him I had never been to a zoo. We were there less...

    Caged For Life.

When your just a kid you don't think about it being cruel. But I recently realized that that's not their natural habitat and they are caged prisoners. Maybe they aren't being hurt but still can a human live in a cage from birth to death and still be able to function on it's own...

    Captive Beauty...

I love my cat, but I don't even have a carry box for him and I let him play outside. I always pout when I see Zoo animals. Here's a big idea, if you want to save animals...quit destroying their natural habitats to build shopping malls and car parks! Yes, I'm angry.

    The Zoo Of Life

The very act of imprisoning the wild animal destroys the beauty that makes it beautiful and compelling...the freedom to meet life and death on it's own terms. A creature caged is dead, just as surely as the stuffed jackal in the museum of natural history. The human spirit when...

    The Pacing Cheetah

I have submitted this before, but the pacing Cheetah is one of the reasons that I no longer visit the St. Louis, Zoo. I can't stand it. The Cheetah paced back and forth along the fenceline meowing like a frightened kitten. She was so restless and pent up and I felt sorry for her...

I Went to the Zoo Today

I saw a bald eagle(he looked very patriotic)...prairie dogs(no dramatic looks today!) falcons, and owls. Alynx was sleeping and "Miss Griz" was taking a dip in her pool. My favorite part was the two mountain lions! They SQUEAKED! I even heard one purr. I...

    How Sad It Is.

i think the zoo is sad because they are sometimes in a cage. to the people who work there i would sayto them how would you like it if iput you in a cage and then they might think about how they feel.

The zoo has its ups and downs.

I've met animals and zoo keepers that are very happy to be there. But also, some of these animals are so miserable! They could be running free in their natives lands but instead, they're stuck behind bars.

    Around the World...

...the exploitation and neglect and maltreatment of zoo animals is very, very sad. Zoos are promoted as educational and beneficent toward the preservation of animal species around the world. Animals weren't meant to live in cages and on concrete. Tigers who constantly pace...

But The Reality Is Even Sadder

Maybe some people from this group will go against about what I'm going to say next but Think About It, what happened to the extinct animals? Or the species that are still in danger? Maybe they are in a small place suffering, missing their habitat and want freedom, but what...
