I Use Ubuntu Linux and Love It

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 91 People

    It Just Works.

I use Ubuntu (hardy heron) on my laptop, a Thinkpad T42. It works perfectly, and is quick. There are no viruses. What more could I want (aside from getting DVD playback to work, but I'll get it to work).

    I'm Loving It.

I started with computers about 12 years ago in India. Mos t of it was Windows with Win95, 98 and then XP. I however tried my hand with RedHat Linux 6 about 6 years back. Although I could install, I did not find it appealing back then and soon gave it up. I picked up Linux again...

    I Dont Love It...

...it confuses the hell out of me. But like someone said, it does make windows and apple feel a little constricting.   Now if only there was a way I could use photoshop on here...

I went from a Mac to a PC

that uses Windows at work recently. I can't stand it. I see all the software that the company invests thousands of dollars in (in lieu of investing in employees) and want to vomit because I could have found free alternatives in a lot of cases. Plus, the bastards are out to get...

    Using Xubuntu Every Day

I tried Linux a  few times previously (minux, redhat,  suse) but it was just wasn't practical for my needs.  I tried Ubuntu Dapper and it was great.  I took me a while but now I've got more confidence in Ubuntu than I do in Windows.  I'm...

Installed It On a Friends' Laptop

He really likes it, and wonders why anyone would want to pay for Windows, if this works better and costs nothing.  One of the apps (Inkscape) even import Adobe Illustrator files.  When I brought the laptop home, Vista was on in, and so slow to start.  5 mins. to...

    Coming to Ubuntu

In the summer of 2007 my husband surprised me with a new laptop. It was a surprise because I had been using a much-upgraded 2000 iMac and what he gave me was a Vista laptop. I struggled with it for about six weeks and became more and more frustrated. I was getting really...

    Making the Change to Linux

Last year, after Windows Vista made it's famous flop, I received a brand new T-61 from Lenovo, with Vista on it.  The hardware was great, it had 4GB of RAM, a large hard disk, a wide screen, fingerprint reader, and other nice features.  However, the Vista operating...

    Kubuntu 13.10 Beta

I've been using the 13.10 Beta since it went live; I skipped over the daily builds and alpha releases. I'm running in a dual-boot set up with Mac OS X 10.6.8, so getting here was somewhat convoluted. First, install the Mac OS X partition.  Then, hop online and install rEFIt...

    Not Without a Few Problems...

I've use Xubuntu long enough now that I've got more confidence in it than Windows.  It's not for everyone yet; I have had to do some fairly serious troubleshooting. I do use it for everyday things like letters and documentation and I've had very good luck using...

I Use Kubuntu, But Close Enough

I've been a Linux user since 2002. I started with Red Hat, then used Mandrake/Mandriva for a while, and finally settled in with Kubuntu in 2007.  I think it was 2007, at any rate.    I always liked the KDE better than Gnome, or really any other GUI environment, so Kubuntu was...

    God Bless Ubuntu

Like most people I was lost in the wilderness that was Windows Vista. I was angry, frustrated and disillusioned with life in the Vista universe. I knew there had to be…more. Or, less, as is the case with Ubuntu. Less hassles. Less headaches. Less program crashes and...

Dumped Windows And Have No Regrets!

I started playing around with Ubuntu around 2006. I put Dapper Drake 6.06.2 on an old spare machine that originally ran Win95 and immediately loved it! I was amazed at the ease of installation and how fast the Linux OS software had evolved. I held on to Windows XP for a very...

My Favorite Linux Distro So Far Is...

... Kubuntu 12.10. I have tried about a dozen distros so far and have liked a few of them very much.  Coming from a Windows background, I find Kubuntu to be graphically similar to Windows.  The apps work flawlessly and smoothly which makes the experience much like Windows, imo...

I just love it. I'm an "Ubuntu fanboy"!

The rest of my family uses windows but honestly, it trashes your hard drive. Also, you have so much control! If I want to make a new command, few clicks and voila! A new command is born. Installing stuff is so much easier as well with the software centre. I would highly...

I am glad to see this topic

as a Ubuntu 12.04 user. Let me make the story short. I love Ubuntu more because I feel I'm controlling my OperationSystems. I am The Lord of it lol. Ok, the more important reason is: IT IS FOR FREE! Once you start, you won't stop. That's the charms of Ubuntu.
