    Dumb Hobby

I used to record songs off the radio, and they wouldn't even be full songs.  They'd be like in the middle.  It got ridiculous, like a drug.  I had (and still have) ALL the cassettes I ever made.  I had 2 racks full of homemade tapes, and they'd all have the...

    A Lost Artform

Making a mix tape is a lost art form, for sure. Today, you can just make a playlist and off you go. Once, there was a lot of planning involved. Once you chose a "theme" for our tape mix, you had to choose the tape. C-60? C-90? I liked the C-90 tapes. I recall there were some...

    Still Do

My honey's truck is a 1988 Chevy Silverado that plays cassettes and I make him a new "I love my Baby" tape every week. It's fun to put together a theme and make it. He loves them and will never stop loving that truck, so I guess he'll never get "I love my Baby" cd's and that man...

Before the age of Cds and Mp3's, music used to be gems. As a teen, I didnt have enough money to buy lots of tapes or cds. So waiting for my favorite tunes to come on my favorite radio station was the only way to capture them. There was something really magical about running into...

    I Miss My Old Tapes

I loved making mixed tapes and would take as long as a day choosing the order and choice for the 90 minutes .......   I found an old tape recently that I made for a friend in 1991, it took me ages to find a tape player (in a friend´s old beaten up jeep) but the...

Ha ha ha. I remember dubbing from one tape to

another, or from a cd to a tape, or best of all, listening all day to the radio to record all the phattest jams...lol.

    I Remember Those Days

waiting for just the right song to come on the radio so you could record it...or recording it off of another tape.  it was so awesome that i didn't have anything else better to do than to sit around and listen to the radio, or to even have the time to make those tapes...long...

    When I Was A Teen

I was a teenager before we had fast internet, and before you could buy and download music online so the only way of getting music was to buy a tape or Cd for like £20 for the songs you wanted - and what 14 year old can do that very often, especially with more fun things to buy...

Feels Like A Long Time Ago

I used to mix tapes to play in the car on long commutes. I have a stereo that has a CD player and 2 cassette players so I could tape tracks off a CD or a cassette. I was pretty good at it too, a few times I was able to get enough music on the tape without too much empty tape at...

    Old Fashioned Music Piracy

I remember when I was like 10 *thinks back* .... yeah lets go with 10. I would pop in a blank cassette tape in my little cheap-o boom box, and just steal music off the radio. Sure there were some commercials here and there ... But how else was I suppose to get "Hit Me Baby...

    Found Em :)

If there was one thing I used to LOVE to do, it was making mixed tapes. I remember making MANY MANY mixed tapes at around 12 years old, until I was maybe 20 or so. The fact that you could record from the radio.. brilliant :) However sometimes I'd hear a song I loved , and it...

    So Corny!

Yep, in my teens, I would make mix tapes for myself and share them with other kids in the neighborhood. They were songs I recorded off the radio... I know, this is ancient technology to some! XD It's very corny now, but back in 80's and 90's, it was very cool. Now I still...

    I Still Have Them

My dad sent them to me here in Wisconsin. I had left them in Hawaii. I have about 60 of them! They have alternative, rap, classic rock..all kinds of stuff. I love that music compared to todays music. For me, mainstream music started to go bad in 1999. I stopped listening to the...

I Made A Lot Of Them

I've always been real big into music so I used to make mix tapes for my girlfriends, my friends and for myself. I still burn CDs for people sometimes but it's not the same. I used to love getting the reactions to my mix tapes from everyone. Burning CDs isn't quite as exciting as...

    The Late 80's

Yeah, when I was about 10 or 11, the mix tape was a huge part of my spare time. I recorded stuff from the radio all the time to give to friends or just for myself. I miss those things, actually. lol

I Use To Make Mix Tapies

I taped songs from the Radio.  I kept doing this until my taperecorder started chewing and twisting the tape.   I took it in to get repaired and the repair cost was more than a new one.

I miss how people used to make mix tapes

for each other. I still see it as such a romantic gesture; taking the time to select the songs, finding the perfect order for them, carefully recording them onto the tapes (and making sure that people don't interrupt you in the process!), sometimes adding a voiceover or...

    I Still Do...kinda.

I just made one for work this past weekend - Elvis on one side (his golden hits, vol 1) and Lefty Frizzel on the b-side. The b-side had some room left, so I put on some trucker songs and a couple Lee Hazelwood tunes. A while ago I compiled a tape of Julie London on the A-side...

How Things Use To Get Done

Mixed tapes— that's how music use to be shared before online downloading. I figured this out the moment I got my stereo player equipped with tape player and AM/FM radio. I was never one of those nice kids who would make mixed tapes for friend, parties or a compilation of...

    I Still Do

I make great mixes. I also still listen to my tapes. They are awesome. You can throw em around without a case and they're fine. Do just about anything with them except leave em on the dash of a car and they still work. I'm always proud of my mixes. Wish I could sell them really...

    Love Is A Mix Tape

I love the mix tape. It is more often now a palylsit or on rare occasions a burned cd. I still burn cds for people. Though its not as focused as making a mix tape used to be. It is still an awesome way to expess yourself to anyone, ur love, parents, God, Yourself....u...

When I was in my early teens, I would take my favourite song of other casettes and add them to a new blank tape, and also tape songs directly of the radio.  I also did this when I first started with a portable cd player. Ipods and mp3 players however soon done away...

I Made Them Up Until Just About Year Ago.

I have a drawer in my night stand table full of about 100 mix tapes... Then I have a huge crate with about 150 more. I have probably about 250 mix tapes or more. I was making them up until 2008. I didn't have a computer, so I would borrow cd's from the library and record them on...

You Had To Put In Work!

I remember when I was a teenager I made a mix tape of hair band ballads for me and my high school sweetheart to make out to... every once in a while I hear a song from that tape and think of him - and even though we lost touch years ago, I know in my heart that the same thing...
