I 've Always Felt Out of Place

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 1,060 People

So much so I used to ask my parents regularly

if I was adopted. I never looked like them really, never had the same behaviour traits, was always just that little bit more sensitive, and a little more left field than the rest. Turns out I'm 100% their's alright - it just took most of my life to realise it.

Sometimes I Think I've Felt This Way......

Since I was born. At the very least as long as I could remember. Even with family, other than my momma, I always seem to be the 'freak'. Most of my family are very "put together". It's almost like nothing at all can get to them. I am so emotional that it sometimes borders on...

My godsister invited me to a surprise

celebration for her Zumba teacher. The affair itself was very well planned and well attended. As the festivities were underway,I tried to make small talk with the people at our table. It didn't go over as well, but needless to say I didn't let that discourage me having a good time...

I have always lived my own life

and by my rules. I have never found my place and therefor have created my own...I just don't fit in because I buck the trend and just go with the flow. I don't adhere to any stereotype and would honestly be mortified if I did. I fit in best by not fitting in.

Not gonna lie. I'm out of place.

A 15 year old girl who doesn't wear makeup, who watches cartoons, and doesn't play any sports, instead, plays instruments. Just gonna be myself.

Even when I had friends with common interests,

I've always felt like the odd one out, the one who doesn't truly fit in.

    Being Different

My mother was married 7 times...My grandparents lived on a farm.  My mother was always searching for herself in other people....my grands were always close to the earth and very grounded.  I lived in cities most of my life, but went back often to visit my grandparents...

Well I live in this little town in Wisconsin and for some reason I've never felt like I belong here. It's small, the people here are all the same, and nothing exciting ever happens here. Idk if it has something to do with the fact that I was born in Toronto, Canada, but I think...

I Fit In, At Least On The Surface Anyway

In high school I fit in completely. Because I'm pretty, witty and good at sport. But on the inside I know I'm different. My perception of people is cynical and skewed.i feel like I'm from another time, somewhere in the future, looking reflectively back upon the human race...

    Growing Up

Growing up I always felt out of place. I never really felt included or as if I belonged with my peers.Class and family history were a huge influence on that.My family was poor, my clothes were mainly used, we lived in an apartment,  my glasses were very geeky and thick,  and...

    What Thoughts Become...

Weigh the risk versus reward of being in servitude to your own mind and the most obscure thought. Is it a blessing or a curse? Are you victimized or a beneficiary? Like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder...or in this case the bearer of the thought(s). Anxiously you...

Wherever I go, whoever I'm with, I'm always the odd one out. People look at my friends, then they look at me, and wonder, "Where did she come from?"It's not that I don't have anything in common with my friends, it's just that there are some things that I just cannot relate to...

    It's Cool.......

There's really no story for this but...... Even though I feel I'm out of place, and most likely I am, I love it. I don't like being like everyone anyway. They can except me for me, or not.

Since joining this civilian life yes.

I feel out of place and feel as though I have nothing to offer. I'm just too nice per say (used n abused). Civilians are mean.

I've always had the feeling just

because I don't act like most teenagers, I tend to be more mature than others too but I rarely ever show it and I'm not some hormone crazed teen who's just going through a phase. (At least I don't think so anyways)

I grew up on a farm with a dysfunctional family

where I found enjoyment in the woods. I had few friends and ran away once. I learned in 09 that I have aspergers, explaining my awkwardness and lack of understandings in relationships. Soon after I moved out my angered home and on my own. I never been happier. I honestly doubt...
