Why would anyone want to do that?  I have a great network of friends and family and I wouldn't know what to do without them.

I have a family I am close with, and quite a few friends however the excitement of just up and leaving and starting over is very alluring. Call it boredom, but it's there.

That may be why. Some people don't have the support you do, and their friends and family may in fact be a negative influence. Or, everyone needs a break at some point. Maybe there's a lot going on and what's needed is some time away from all the drama.
