Teens. And the more amount of kids in the car... the more likely the accident occuring. Has to do with showing off and/or not paying closer attention to driving. They're also less likely to wear a seat belt due to the "un-coolness" of them. Also watched a news segment that litterally teens brains aren't completely done forming in the areas of decission making and responses. Therefore, in split second traffic decissions, they may not make the best decissions.

Although there is some basis for those views, the major causes are inexperience, lack of driving courses (many don't utilize this), over-confidence (like when you took a test and thought you studied well enough), lack of experience driving in different situations (night, rain, etc), and peer-pressure (especially the media - celeb driving, movies w/ extreme driving, etc.) Its also been proven that adults suffer from many of the same things we say teens do. This includes not wearing seatbelts, not paying attention (eating, talking on the cell, loud music, putting on makeup, etc), the amount of people in the car (distraction level),  etc. For all age populations, specifically college/young adult age (I think 16-24), alcohol related accidents are a major issue. Two others to look out for are speeding and aggressive driving behavior. Some statistics say for those in the age group of 1 to 30 years, the leading cause of death is due to being involved in a car accident. People, who are between 15 to 24 years, and those who are above 75 years of age, are the people who are most severely affected by car accidents.

Emerald, Thanks for mentioning neurological factors. I've heard the neurological argument before, but its not widely supported. I would love to see people do more research about it. I helped with research for PTSD in car accident survivors, but not brain function pre-accident.

**Remember to do your own research; don't beleive everything you read or hear. There is so much contradictory info out there.

Isn't that age group a little too broad? There's a big difference between being 20 years old and 30 years old.

I'm 34 and a lot different than when I was 20.

I think people in age group less then 20 are more involved in car accidents. as they are young and don't have life expirence.
