So we had one this evening,

though I didn't feel it, as I was in a moving car at the moment. THANK GOD!! Supposedly it was pretty intense :/ But now the problem is I can't sleep :/ It's weird how even the word 'Earthquake' makes people feel nervous, agitated and your senses become heightened. Every...

I live in a area of quakes.

The last one was a couple of days ago. The largest one I felt had a maximum Mercalli Intensity of IX (Violent), and a moment magnitude of 6.9 and it was a number of years ago. Just waiting for another big one.

Not much as a story here, just a thought. It's amazing how people get used to their particular environment. Last night we had a 5.2 at 4'30 am aprox. I didn't felt a thing, lol. It takes more than 6 degrees to actually wake me up. This is not common for everybody, but checking my...

    How It Was For Me

I was lucky enough to miss the September 7.1 that was the cause of the trouble down here in Christchurch, NZ. I was also lucky that the Boxing Day aftershock of 'only' 4.9 closed my shop - because the latest big one, a 6.3 on Feb 22nd, totally destroyed it and I don't think its a...

    I'm Starting To Lose Count...

The first was, ironically enough, when I was about 8 years old (1966) in Tennessee where I grew up.  Nothing big - felt a shake, saw lampshade move.  Some of the department stores downtown (yes, it was a long time ago) had their plate glass windows shatter. ...

In my other ID is a story about a 3.6 or 3.7 earthquake about 20 miles away. Compared to today's - that quake was no big deal. At first I thought it was a big truck speeding over a near-by speed bump and by the time I was fully awake it was over. Today's started with a shaking...
