    The Best Time

I was with my friend Ben, a buddy of his whose name I don't recall, my best friend Em and her college roommate Erin.  We grabbed some boxed wine, a blanket and loaded into Dude X's pickup truck, crammed all in. We drove to the lake, with X taking gravelly curves at high...

    I've Seen Lots...

But, my favorite memory of a meteor shower was when my husband and I were dating and he had just recently moved out to Montana.  We were lying on a blanket in the back of my pick-up and we saw this HUGE one go slicing through the sky.  It was so romantic.

    A Blog About a Meteorite

I wrote a blog about the meteorite that I use as my avatar, and WiseOldOwl suggested I post a mention of it here.  It's at: http://ebunbury.blogs.experienceproject.com/

    Streaking the Sky

I had arrived in Savannah only days before.  I was staying on Tybee Island with some friends, and the evening had found us all sitting on the beach, under the stars.  It was warm and quiet, a really nice night.  i was laying on my back, staring skyward, feeling the...

    Great Wonders

My hubby and I watched with friends on a freezing cold night. We had a huge bonfire. We watched all night. They just kept coming and coming from all directions. Impossible to see them all there were so many. It was truly awesome.

    Special Moments

I remember getting up in the middle of the night with my eldest daughter and driving out into the country to watch the Perseid.  I don't remember seeing a lot of meteors, but there was something special about sneaking out of the house together when we were supposed to be...

    Summer Night

It was over the summer, and I was in New Jersey... I heard there was going to be a meteor shower between 11p.m. and 1 a.m. I was there with my parents and my best friend, and since my parents aren't that into that kind of thing, it was just me and my friend.  We decided...

    Amusing Memory.

The last meteor shower I watched was last year sometime. I was still living up in PA and I had been waiting for it rather impatiently. My plan was to curl up in a blanket with my (then) boyfriend and quietly watch together. I didn't take his impatience into account, and within...

I was just turned nine years old.

At that time it was easy to see the Milky Way from our suburban back yard. My mom would read in bed every night and sometime she'd let me bring a book and read with her. This usually ended up with my falling asleep and when Dad came to bed he's get me back to my own bed. I...

    ...,the 2001 Leonid Storm.

I watch lots of meteor showers, actually, but the 2001 Leonid storm was the event of a lifetime.  I viewed from a site an hour out of town that is frequented by members of our local astronomy club.  For a typical Perseid shower, there might be half a dozen of us. ...

It's actually going to be more prolific around

2 in the morning, so I'm definitely going to stay up late to see if I can catch more. So far, I've only seen one, but wow...was it amazing!

    Under a Prairie Sky

This was many years ago, before I left Alberta.  One summer there was a news report about how a meteor shower would be visible around Edmonton.  I suggested to my mom that we check it out.  So, after night fell, we drove for about an hour to get away from the...

Perseids and Leonids, Nearly Every Year

I love the Leonids but the Perseids are easier to watch because July is so much nicer for being out after dark than is November. However, the best showers I've seen in my lifetime were the Leonids in 2001--huge meteors, almost like comets.  I can still see the blazing tail...
