    In Hawaii

I usually go to Hawaii in January.  I love the weather there and it is a welcomed change from the cold here.  One of the things I do is go out on the Four Winds Scuba Diving but on the way out to the crater, part of the trip is seeing the whales that have come in...

    It Wasn't Intentional!

I was on the ferry going from the San Juan Islands in Washington to Vancouver Island.  Our journey was almost over, when suddenly, the captain told us to look at the whales in the distance.  We all ooh ed and aah ed.  Half of us didn't see anything, but said we did...

    I visited San Francisco

and went whale watching out there. For almost two hours, I was on that boat, and it was TORTURE. I got so seasick, even after I took a Dramamine. I went to one part of the boat and...you know, did my business (lost my breakfast and lunch and all). After that, a man led his...

For seven days I traveled the Sea of Cortez

and the Pacific off Baja Sur. I saw Bryde’s and Humpbacks by the score. Dolphins bow rode our small ship. In the Pacific, I was within thirty feet of many California Greys and their calves will in a Zodiac. One even came to the edge of my craft and let me pet her and her...

A few years ago me and the wife went to Monteray and went out on a boat to do the whale watching thing.  I took some dramine but it did not help.  We saw some whales off one side of the boat and everyone went over to see.  They were just about 50 ft from the boat...

    What Whales?

I paid the fee, got on the boat, and went out in the middle of the pacific ocean to watch the whales begin their migration north to cooler waters for the summer.  Unfortunatley the weather was unseasonably warm, and the whales migrated a week early.  Therefore, I ...

    Every Chance I Get

I've taken whale catching tours from coastal towns in California, tours that go about 5 miles offshore in diesel boats.  And I took an afternoon sail on a schooner in Maine, and a sail on a catamaran off Kauai.  Out of half a dozen or so trips, I've yet to be...

    Breaching Whale, Heron Island, Australia

A few years ago I was lucky enough to live/work on the Great Barrier Reef.  It was a speck in the Coral Sea called Heron Island.  Each year, humpback whales migrate past Heron Island so for the 3 years I lived there I had a number of up close and personal experiences...

I was a little scared about this,

I fear deep water because I can't swim. When I spotted the boat in the harbor I was satisfied with it, it was approximatley 20 meters (60 feet) long, with a beam of 5 meters (15 feet) and apparently constructed mostly from wood. I walked towards it on the pier, carefully. When I...
