I think my generation was ready falling prey to

couch potato-ism... But we didn't have a tv. It was a book or outside or both! You almost always would find me up a tree reading.

When i was a child and teenager,

i always went outside to look for fun activities. I grew up in the States and specifically in Denver, Colorado. I had it all back then and as i do today as well. In my early days, i went sledding down the side of steep hill or unused street, rode my bicycle, went swimming and...

In some ways, I have little room to talk.

I'm electronically connected these days 24/7.  However, there's a huge difference between myself and the youth of today. I never darkened the doorway unless I had to as a kid.  I lived outdoors most of my waking hours.  Kids today don't venture from the...

but when I was about 8 I rode my bike with my friend Kira and her cousins outside and we climbed the big tree in their yard for hours. We walked around the neighborhood and did fun things.

    There was no "going outside"

as a kid; it was more of being outside until allowed to "come in". :-) Getting a drink meant turning on the hose. My favorite activities involved naming cloud shapes, riding my bike, exploring the woods and using "Donald Duck" orange juice cans (bonus if you remember these...

I used to love going outside

and playing and when I was punished I had to stay inside. How different kids are today. Today if they're punished they have to turn off the electronics and go outside. Polar opposites.

Until probably the age of 10 my imagination,

my dog, and (luckily) safe surroundings could keep me entertained for a few hours at a time. I had no siblings near my age. I remember enjoying being left alone with my thoughts in the backyard. There was a tree swing, sand box, a variety of small toys in a shed, and a grape...

We were not just allowed out

This was in the early to mid 90's,

so things like internet, cell phones, etc. were not very well known back then. I would go out and play games with the neighborhood kids and stay out past dark. You can't really do that nowadays because even small towns are becoming dangerous. But it brings back nice memories.

not around when I was a child. I left the "drama" at school. my home life was my safe place. I went fishing with my daddy, I played tag in our front yard, I caught lightning bugs in mason jars, I played "hide ans seek", I had fun and wasnt addicted to a phone.
