I When I Was A Kid We Actually Went Outside And Played

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 6,893 People

I played hard and have scars to prove it.

Every scar has a memory. There is one on my left elbow that I got from playing basketball. I tried to save the ball from going out and fell. I had more skin on the pavement than I had on my elbow. I have a scar on my left inner thigh from attemtping to hop a chainlink fence. I...

I went to my grandparents every weekend with my

cousins. They had built a cabin in the backyard with a play stove, fridge, and sink. We had all kinds of stuff to mess with. Pots, pans, coffee pot, fake food, spoons, vaccum, table, etc. We would take dirt and made meals out of it. For example, I would take dirt and mix it with...

When I was younger a friend of mine had light

up lightsabers with sound effects, so when I went over to his house we had night time lightsaber battles, it was awesome and each time someone would lose we would come up with a cool line to say to him to Finish the fight. :)

I see kids younger than me sitting there and watching over even younger kids, but there I am swinging on the swing set, not giving a single fck.

Only because I had a strict stepfather.

I was more of an indoor child who wanted to play the Playstation, but he wouldn't let us play with that much. Now that I am older, I'm passed the phase though I do play online games time to time.

Until probably the age of 10 my imagination,

my dog, and (luckily) safe surroundings could keep me entertained for a few hours at a time. I had no siblings near my age. I remember enjoying being left alone with my thoughts in the backyard. There was a tree swing, sand box, a variety of small toys in a shed, and a grape...

I can honestly say I am glad social media was

not around when I was a child. I left the "drama" at school. my home life was my safe place. I went fishing with my daddy, I played tag in our front yard, I caught lightning bugs in mason jars, I played "hide ans seek", I had fun and wasnt addicted to a phone.

    I loved going outside

as a child. There were so many trees in need of climbing! So many birds to chase and so many trails to explore with my bike. Outside was where I wanted to be at all times. Sitting in the house in front of the tv was no fun. I did not understand how kids could play video games...

just like all the other kids. There was always something fun to do outside, even as a teen. Wiffle ball and kickball on 4 corners, stickball, handball, basketball, football(especially in the snow), double dutch and more. We were never bored. Seems like kids are soo...

I even woke up early. I was hardly inside and was always in the yard with my dog. I had my own little table outside which I called my office and I pretended I had a job which was interviewing my teddy bears. I used to interview my dog and my teddy bears and I used to pretend I...

Not for me. One of my favorite places to play was at my grandma's house where she had a lot of BIG trees. I loved them. I loved to climb them. I would sit up there for hours reading and thinking and watching the wildlife. I would lay on the grass and look up through the branches...

..it could easily become a fort, spaceship or army tank rolling down the hill. We built treeforts and plenty of other hideouts. Sometimes in summer we would zoom our bikes down the hill-off the dock-and into the river! Dive down with a rope, haul 'em up,and repeat the maneuver.In...
