I Will Always Be Kind to Telemarketers

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 28 People

My father worked as an executive for a major telecommunications corporation for many years.  I suppose I have always associated those voices on the phone with human beings, so it is very hard for me to consider behaving rudely toward anyone involved in that line of work...

I Had Atleast 2 Jobs Like This

I was a telemarketer for a mortgage company, and Verizon before. Although some people were mean and cussed me out, some people were actually nice and flirted with me. I have a good phone voice, so some didn't mind. I got hit on more than a couple of times. A job is a job. People...

    I Know What It's Like

I'm on the phone the entire time at work, so I understand what it's like to be on the other end of the line. Sometimes I do get frustrated when telemarketers call, especially during times like dinner time, but I never lash out or just hang up. If they keep talking, I will...

    Well, At Least Polite

I try not to be rude to the telemarketers that call.  I realize that it's just a job for most of them and they'd probably rather be doing something else anyway. Unfortunately, most of them have to repeat a "canned" speech and don't take the time to listen...

It is not a job that I envy.  Constant verbal attacks down the telephone for merely doing your job, already a somewhat soul-destroying job, when based on commission, it is heardly something that verbal abuse and impoliteness needs to be added to.  If not interested...

As annoying as it is to receive their calls, I realize that on the other end of the line, there is a human being with feelings, and they are merely doing their job in order to put food on their table. Spreading negativity and hate- even through a phone call- is not productive...

    Just Hang Up Already!

TM: "Congratulations sir, you have just been selected to receive a brand new phone". Me: "No thank you, I'm really not interested" TM: "What do you mean 'Sorry', just hang up sir". Me: "ok".

    Personal Understanding Now

My brother had that kind of job for a little while (people normally don't stay in it for long, the hours are bad the pay is lousy and he job is just plain not fun) I have always tried to be friendly to telemarketers, I normally don't answer my phone so I miss most of them, but I...

    Not Anymore

I used to be polite to them but not anymore. I had one telemarketer called and somehow they had my card number. I politely declined their offer, but I later found out that the charged my account anyway. The charge put my account in overdraft and plus they never gave me my...

    Maybe Not Always....

but mostly I do try to be mindful that they are just doing their job. Ok, to be completely honest, a telemarketer call can go one of three ways - depending on the current situation. 1. I am busy - I will firmly, but respectfully inform them that I am not interested and...
