Ghost218
I was in 1st grade when the attacks happened, but I still remeber the images of that day very vividly.
I remember sitting in class while the teacher was handing out an assignment when another teacher came into the room with panic written all over her face. She said, "You need to come with me." My teacher left for only some time then quickly came back in the classroom with several other teachers and they turned on the TV in my classroom to the news just as the airplane hit the second tower (ours was one of the only TVs that worked pretty well).
I don't remember many of the words, but I remember the images. The looks on the teachers' faces, the tears on their cheeks, and the fear and confusion in their eyes. After they watched the coverage for a while they tried to act as if everything was fine, but you could see the concern in their faces.
My elementary school is close to a big airport and they knew at the time that if the planes couldn't make it to their destinations, they were to hit schools. And Flight 93 was one of those that almost did.
The teachers, after watching all of this and turning off the TV in my classroom, took turns running in and out of each classroom to check on us once they gave us stuff to color with and they all gathered in the teachers' lounge in order to watch the news privately as to not panic us. They refused to really explain to us what was happening. I learned later when I got home from my parents what happened (which needless to say was confusing for me when I was younger).
I later heard that the office was chaos as so many parents came to get their children. I don't blame them.
But I will never forget those images from that day.
