First Same-Sex Marriages in San Francisco

Experience Project attends historic first gay marriages in San Francisco

On June 16, 2008, at 5:00pm, the state of California began issuing marriage licenses for same-sex couples, with a symbolic initial ceremony in San Francisco. The following day, hundreds of gay and lesbian couples went to City Hall to experience something they've never had a chance to do before. Experience Project was there to document this momentous occasion.

We've gathered videos, photos, and stories from the day's event. Or, you can also check out our main Gay and Lesbian topic page or sign a petition supporting marriage rights.
