In 2007 artist Guillermo Vargas took a stray dog from the streets of Nicaragua, and tied it to a short leash in an art gallery, titling his exhibit "Eres Lo Que Lees" ("You Are What You Read"). The dog was tied to a wall by a length of rope in a room full of standing people, with the title of the exhibit written on the wall in dog food. The dog soon died-- it is unclear whether the dog died from starvation (the art gallery claims it was attacked by other dogs), but irrespective, no animal should be subject to this type of torture in the name of art.

Worse yet, the Arts Biennial of Central America has invited Vargas to repeat this cruelty in 2008. Make your voice heard! Hungry, helpless, homeless animals are NOT to be abused!. For more information, please click here. This is not a hoax-- and no matter how this poor dog actually died, a starving live animal is NOT an art exhibit for people's pleasure and this behavior cannot be condoned....
