USHS launched the results an investigation that found that Petland (US’s largest puppy selling pet store) supporting cruel puppy mills, even when they have said they only work with good breeders.
In puppy mills dogs are treated like crops not live animals.
hundreds of breeding dogs are packed into cramped, barren cages—often for their entire lives, with no socialization, exercise, or human interaction. puppies living in filthy, barren cages reeking of urine, with inadequate care and socialization. Some of the breeders were found with sick or dead dogs in their cages.
Life is particularly bad for "breeding stock," dogs who live their entire lives in cages and are continually bred for years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever becoming part of a family. These dogs receive little or no veterinary care and never see a bed, a treat or a toy. After their fertility wanes, breeding animals are commonly killed, abandoned or sold to another mill.
IMAGINE: You woke up this morning in a cage. It was hot outside, and the sun was beating down hard on you. Your cage was barely big enough for you to move around. You haven’t exercised for weeks and haven’t had any social contact since as far as you can remember. You’re covered in urine and feces – both your own and that of others.
This is daily life at a puppy mill, where many pet stores breed and grow puppies for sale, much like farmers grow corn and wheat. Treating life like cash crops.
Breeding dogs live their entire lives in cages and are continuously bred for years. They have no human interaction and no family. Eventually, they become infertile and are put down or abandoned.
