The point of Frogger is to bring the frogs home one by one. To do this, each frog must avoid cars while crossing a very busy road, or navigating a river full of obstacles and hazards.

You start with 5 lives (Frogs), and you must guide the frog from the bottom of the screen to the top, without getting squashed or drowning! The screen bottom contain a road with cars, trucks, buses, cabs, bikes and more, speeding along from side to side. The top contains a river with logs, crocodiles (alligators?), and turtles, also moving from side to side. You can ride the logs and the turtles-- and even the crocs (just don't jump on their mouths!) to get across the river. The topmost part of the screen contains five "frog dens." You have to get Frogger into each of those five dens. Watch out-- sometimes the dens are occupied by gators or hawks, and you can't jump in then! Once you put five Froggers in good homes, you beat the level. To further challenge you, each level has a timer, and you must get across the obstacles before the timer reaches zero!

Play is incredibly simple-- you just move the arrows up, down, right or left to hop the frog in that direction.

There are lots of ways for our frog to die in this game! Here are a few:

* Frogger gets hit by a vehicle
* Frogger gets attacked by a snake in the median strip or on a floating log
* Frogger misses a log or turtle and drowns in the river
* Frogger runs off the screen on a log or turtle
* Frogger waits too long on a "diving turtle" as it goes under
* Frogger jumps into the mouth of a crocodile
* Frogger misses the den as he tries jumping into it
* Frogger jumps into a den already occupied by another Frogger
* Frogger runs out of time before making it to a den

Frogger is an arcade game introduced in 1981. The game is regarded as a classic and was noted for its novel gameplay and theme.

The game was originally going to be titled "Highway Crossing Frog"

Frogger is regarded as one of the "Top 10 Videogames" of all time by the Killer List of Videogames (KLOV).

The game was featured in the Seinfeld episode "The Frogger".[4] Jerry and George visit a soon-to-be-closed restaurant they frequented as teenagers and discover the Frogger machine still in place, with George's decades-old high score still recorded. He buys the machine and tries to get it home without letting it lose power, which would erase the score with his initials "GLC" (in reality, Frogger does not actually let players enter their initials). After rigging the machine up with batteries, his attempt to navigate it across a busy New York street is a direct parody of the game (which uses the same sound effects and is shown from a top down view) and ends with a "smashing" defeat. George's score was 863,050 points, even though the current world record is 698,850.
