  • A different kind of Christmas Tale...

    Posted on: December 28th, 2008 at 9:35PM

Five days ago, I went "home" to be with my family for the holidays. Four days ago, I realized something was really wrong with my Dad but no one would listen to me -- not even him. Three days ago, I watched my Dad almost die.... for the second time. Every day since then, I haven't been sad. I haven't been in shock. I haven't been overwhelmed. I've been mad - strike that - I've been pissed. And I feel bad not feeling bad. My Dad has a complicated medical history which helps color the situation. He was born with a small tumor in his brain. This tumor has a complicated name that I do not recall, so for the purposes for this story, we will call this tumor "Jeri." Well, as my dad got o… [more]

  • RECOVERY. A more interesting word than the dictionary gives it credit for...

It is not a static ballad. It has been covered by a variety of artists bringing their own interpretations and readings from their own experiences in life. Moreover, it has been refreshed and reinterpreted by Dylan as the years have passed. The work … [more]

  • All Along the Watchtower

    Posted on: November 17th, 2008 at 2:09AM

I am a huge Bob Dylan fan. I think - although he may not have the silky voice of a traditional singer - his lyrics are quite interesting. They make you think... if you let them. "All Along the Watchtower" is one of the most covered songs in modern history. It's considered a quintessential Bob Dylan work. What I find most interesting is that the song itself, seems to be a living commentary. When Dylan first wrote the song and performed it... it ended as sampled here. But in more recent years, since the late 1990s I believe, he has started reprising the opening stanza so as to emphasize the individual's own role in their destiny rather than the heavy hand of "Big Brother." I have never… [more]
