We're making progress.<br />
Just think what it was 500 years ago.
Good question!<br />
You're right about regressive tax rates since Reagan.<br />
The first thing Reagan did after he stole the Presidency from jimmy Carter was to lower the tax rate for his wealthy buddies; and the top 1 percent have paid very little in taxes since then.<br />
It's not just individual millionaires & billionaires who don't pay their fair share in federal taxes..it's also the large corporations.<br />
"One out of four corporations pay no taxes"<br />
They'll do anything to keep the rich, rich. Look up bloodlines.. Most of them are related. The 1% would never tax them.
For your education.
. The wealthiest 1 percent of the population earn 19 percent of the income but pay 37 percent of the income tax. The top 10 percent pay 68 percent of the tab. Meanwhile, the bottom 50 percent—those below the median income level—now earn 13 percent of the income but pay just 3 percent of the taxes.
The most wealthy actually pay the major majority of all taxes. The majority of the population pay little or no taxes. Some middle income get back much more than paid in. <br />
The rich have the means and ability to move wealth. Moving outside the US and loosing all taxes paid. Number already have. <br />
Have retired friends who are tired of the excessive taxes. Investments are the retirement income, taking income reduces spending by these people.
The rich should most definitely pay tax.....After all,.. they are taxing US !! They also tax the planet, since the money is all ultimately derived from the planet...<br />
One sure sign that the rich need taxing is the blatant decadence with which they spend their money ,plus the greedy scams they employ to make even more money (even if they ARE somehow "legal"). Not always true of course.<br />
Then the other sign that have way too much money and not much vision as to how to spend it wisely, is the examples of when they give a whole chunk of it away..<br />
Example Warren Buffet giving 47 billion to Bill Gates....So he has effectively gained that money from the masses, many of whom are really struggling to make any ends meet, and then he has no clear plan of how to use it.<br />
So maybe it goes to do-gooder projects overseas, but unless something is done about global over-population, then its just feeding that problem even more. Meanwhile its also a drain on the source economy.<br />
Meanwhile people are on the street and most of the figures are heading south, including the "happiness" index.<br />
That said, the poorer people also need to use their money more wisely, but we need to at least keep them in their homes and provide a reasonable safety net.<br />
Why should "fat cats" have enough safety net for the next million years while so many live day to day ?<br />
Many on the street have lost jobs and homes and dignity due in part to the rich getting too rich, in a system where money can be accumulated by conniving more than by actual physical effort.<br />
When the rich start to lose at their own game they sometimes get bail-outs, paid for once again by the tax-paying public, which is everyone apart from the rich basically.<br />
Some of that might be inaccurate but its generally correct i think. <br />
Tax the rich so that at least they know what it feels like.
I don't think taxing the rich or the poor is the problem. It's the one who sets this tax rules and their organisation of the money flow Jey Sern the only way to solve the problem. Besides if they tax the rich, they are telling those big shots to find revenue else where in the world.
The "big shots" are already constantly busy seeking out money wherever they can find it in case you haven't noticed..They don't have a conscience or any respect for borders. Does "Made in China" ring any bells ? Geez...we definitely need more spending on education.
Yes. Bring in a wealth tax now and squeeze the rich 'til the pips squeak!
Check your sources
I'm referring to the 85 richest check your sources on that one.
Yeah, that has worked out well here hasn't it?
yes I do and it worked pretty damn well.
Hence the trillions of dollars debt plus so many people struggling ,with bleak prospects ahead a definite possibility. Spending money you don't have always works well until its time to pay it back. Its a good plan for old people that die before the debt collectors arrive.
And do WHAT with the tax money? Give it to the corrupt governments to blow? They'd plow through it in a year's time, have NOTHING to show for it, and stand there with thier greedy hands out wanting MORE taxes....
Saying that the govt. will simply waste the money is a weak excuse because if it were true then why should ANYONE pay tax ? Maybe we don't need roads or healthcare or a legal system or a defence force etc..etc.
However, these same rich are paying 75% of our taxes, creating jobs for you & me, and keeping our economy afloat.
you cannot respond to the statement of fact by hertoy so you go to ad homenim him her it,you are a typical ignorant ill mannered libtard.
Said the pot to the kettle.
In the spin cycle after having been "brainwashed".
The wealthy need to build homes for the homeless everywhere.
Yeah and drinks at the 19th hole with his stockbroker. actually the broker is a psychiatrist drug pusher...
So which country should tax them? These 85 people put their money where there's very little tax. Put the rate up somewhere and it just chasing the money out to some other country.
No it's not. It's like the state saying 'We're going to vaccinate your kid' and you decide to move country to avoid it.
Maybe its like saying "lets just get held to ransom by rich people because we are so fearful they will take their business elsewhere" when theres nothing stopping them doing that already ? Theres plenty of examples where countries do tax the rich (example Norway with Mining companies) and everyone shares the rewards. Whatever happened to "moral fortitude" where you only deal with people that play fair and contribute back ? The whole idea is to tax them where they make the money and they can take it wherever they want after that, just like anyone else. Getting "worked over" just in case they leave, is a victim mentality doomed to failure.
Pass whatever laws you like; the rich will still find ways to avoid paying taxes.
No, support democracy. It's the best way to defend your rights.
Taxing the rich does support democracy..Not taxing the rich is is more like an authoritarian society, where the common people just accept whatever is lorded down onto them..Its the sign of a greedy and fearful society that is essentially unjust.
