interesting dream ,the cat family can represent quite a few things ,independence,feirceness,also how you FEEL about a particular animal can also play into it .
a panther since it is jet black can also represent intuition or subconscious levels .
black cats can mean bad luck [they are not ,but a persons belief may play into it ,i dont think that is the case in this dream ]
i feel it might have to do with sexuality in some way since the cat was across your lower body .might mean sexual enjoyment /might even be warning of to many sexual partners [i am simply giving you a few options here ].
fortunately the setting was beautiful and relaxing so perhaps in some way [and this is possible ]you and your ex sort of met in the unconscious realm ,a meeting of minds so to speak ,for a small time you were both very happy .

Well, I actually saw a black panther standing next to my car, out by the beach. My roommate and I were both pretty impressed. He was definitely "beautiful and calm". We were definitely, scared when he looked into our eyes. He was definitely not scared nor was he impressed. We were very relieved when he casually walked on down the road.
We told our landlady about this encounter, she said, in a bored tone, "Oh, it was probably someone's pet."
